Cold Laser and EMDR!

On November 3rd 2021 I started seeing a new chiropractor who uses cold laser treatments. It’s like red light therapy on steroids. Look it up! My smell that was diminished is now almost normal. Gait and stiffness improved greatly. Little tremor I had is gone. Can Type 75% better! He does a laser treatment on my brain that feels wonderful, I can actually feel it working. He points the laser on my back and my stiffness melts away. I do it once a week since then and I am getting off c/l. The lowest dose is too much!My chiropractor is working with a lady who has ALS for 11 years. She was part of a study 10 years ago at the University of Utah with 15 patients and she is the only one still alive. Sounds like I am full of it but I’m not.

At almost the exact same time I started EMDR treatments. Look at my previous post about it. For 2.75 years I was consumed with PD. It was terrible!! My form of PD must be very tied to emotions. Everyone who as been dx with PD could use EMDR. It’s serious trauma!

I sleep better today than before PD. I credit most of that to a high dose of magnesium theronate! Look at my previous post!

I haven’t experienced anxiety in almost a month. None! I hope this finds someone who needs it. Live your life as much as possible like you don’t have PD! Cheers!

Thanks for sharing! Where are you located? I am in Pittsburgh PA and use chiropractor adjustments. One of the chiropractors is using Aspen laser and says it is photobiomodulation. Is this the same as what you had done. I am glad you have success with that treatment. I'd appreciate any and all information you can share it's probably something I want to pursue. Thanks again

I am not sure what type of laser treatments he uses. He has a dopamine setting he points at the back of my head. I will try to figure out what it is. He has had other chiropractors want him to teach his methods. I will ask if he’d advise your chiropractor? He told me the company that makes the lasers sponsored his school and he implemented it at school. It’s amazing! I forgot how good food tasted. My sense of smell and taste has improved so much!

Just a follow up on this, you were going to ask your chiropractor if he would be willing to advise other chiropractors on the usage of the cold laser therapy on brain. Have you talked to your chiropractor about this?

The problem is the laser costs like 12,000. He thinks that most won’t pay that for it. The brand he uses Erchonia. I actually purchased an Avant for about 1/2 that. It works but not as well.

Wow! How much is a session costing?

And thanks for reminding me: If you can taste, you can still smell!

$50 a session. That includes an adjustment as well.

I am not clear on which therapy is giving you which benefit. Can you clarify what benefits you attribute to each therapy? Three weeks ago, your EMDR post sounded like it was the major improvement?

For those who do not know what EMDR therapy is, here is a brief explanation:

Sorry for being unclear, but I don’t really know. I started them at the same time, but I needed more help with my mental health. I would guess most of my overall improvement is due to EMDR, but I would physically feel much better after the laser treatments. The Dr noticed that my back was twisted like scoliosis at first because of the rigidity and Dystonia, but it’s looking near normal already. He had worked with many scoliosis patients that took years to improve as much as I had in less than 2 months. For about a full day after the treatment, I rigidity is almost completely gone.

Thanks so much for sharing. Since reading two books by Norman Doidge, M.D., The Brain's Way of Healing , and The Brain That Changes Itself, I have been considering laser therapy for my husband who has PD. I first heard about these books from someone on this blog. I am in the process of purchasing a headpiece that surrounds the head with these red lights from <redwell.com.au>. The website can explain more for anyone interested.

Regarding the Cold Laser treatment for PD, I'm wondering if a patient who has had DBS surgery on one side would still be a candidate, or would the Cold Laser interfere somehow with the "wiring." Thanks!

I don’t know but I wouldn’t imagine it would be so problem.

The brand of laser was erchonia.com

They seem to sell only to medical professionals? Not sure. He seemed skeptical to other chiropractors would invest in that expensive lasers.

Interesting! The website shows some of their webinars are free. Not directly related to Parkinson's but still... This free one is on 1/20/22erchonia.com/product/brain-...

When he does the laser treatment on your brain where does he do it -all over or just in one spot or what?

38yroldmale profile image

He has a stand for the laser, about 1 ft above my head.

EMDR update!

Less than 3 months in, my outlook on life has done nearly a 180 turn for the better. I have OCD tendencies that made living with PD hell. It consumed me. I forgot how to live, being obsessed on the next treatment or supplement that would be the silver bullet. If anyone is struggling like I was/am, give it a shot. Make sure your comfortable with the therapist before starting EMDR. Now PD is just annoying part of my life, not everything. Have hope! Don’t be so hard on yourself!

EMDR sounds similar to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which I have used successfully on myself to put past traumatic or troubling experiences into proper perspective and relieve stress, fear and anxiety associated with those past experiences. It is convenient because you can use the technique on yourself anywhere and anytime. It even works just by thinking of the technique once you have practiced the technique a bit. EFT is thought to have synergy with EMDR!

To basically describe what EFT is doing, it allows you to disassociate the negativity attached with traumatic events in your life. The negativity was essential at the time that the traumatic event occurred as a self protection device, but the negativity is no longer needed with the passage of time. EFT does not rid you of the memory, it only rids you of the negativity attached to the memory, that now causes you anxiety, fatigue, irrational fear, anger, stress and other psychological issues. In hindsight, the effect it has had on me is amazing and it is so easy to do! It is considered one of the more effective approaches of dealing with PTSD from all causes. There are a growing number of studies about the effectiveness of EFT, especially for PTSD as well as fatigue, stress, anxiety and fear caused by traumatic events in your life.

Interestingly, here is a case study where EFT and EMDR were used together to very good and rapid effect on severe PTSD in just one visit! There are no medications available that can do that.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/311...

Here is an important quote from the case study :

>>> ' Effects of a single session of EFT assessed immediately after treatment demonstrated an elimination of clinically significant scores on both the TSI and PAI. The participant concluded treatment with nearly complete symptom remediation and a return to work. ' <<<

In this study it is proven that EFT relieves PTSD better than medications or psychotherapy:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a...

Here is a very important quote from the study :

>>> ' The approach has been validated in more than 100 clinical trials. Its efficacy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been investigated in a variety of demographic groups including war veterans, victims of sexual violence, the spouses of PTSD sufferers, motor accident survivors, prisoners, hospital patients, adolescents, and survivors of natural and human-caused disasters. Meta-analyses of EFT for anxiety, depression, and PTSD indicate treatment effects that exceed those of both psychopharmacology and conventional psychotherapy. Studies of EFT in the treatment of PTSD show that (a) time frames for successful treatment generally range from four to 10 sessions; (b) group therapy sessions are effective; (c) comorbid conditions such as anxiety and depression improve simultaneously; (d) the risk of adverse events is low; (e) treatment produces physiological as well as psychological improvements; (f) patient gains persist over time; (g) the approach is cost-effective; (h) biomarkers such as stress hormones and genes are regulated; and (i) the method can be adapted to online and telemedicine applications. ' <<<

In this study it is shown that EFT improves health and the results are lasting :

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a...

Here is a relevant quote from the study that shows truly amazing results with measureable multiple improvements in health parameters! :

>>> ' Posttest, significant declines were found in anxiety (-40%), depression (-35%), posttraumatic stress disorder (-32%), pain (-57%), and cravings (-74%), all P < .000. Happiness increased (+31%, P = .000) as did SigA (+113%, P = .017). Significant improvements were found in RHR (-8%, P = .001), cortisol (-37%, P < .000), systolic BP (-6%, P = .001), and diastolic BP (-8%, P < .000). Positive trends were observed for HRV and HC and gains were maintained on follow-up, indicating EFT results in positive health effects as well as increased mental well-being. ' <<<

There are many more studies, but to put it as simply as possible, EFT works and it works relatively fast.

I previously wrote a little bit about EFT on this forum about 3 years ago here :

healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

I taught myself how to do EFT from the hundreds of videos on youtube for free. I wish I could share it with more people because it is a very useful health promoting tool that works and its free!
