Longtime antidepressant could slow Parkinson's
sciencedaily.com/releases/2...
Scientists now have early proof that an antidepressant drug that's been
around for more than 50 years could slow the progression of
Parkinson's.... "What we've essentially shown is that an already

More from same article.
Collier then began testing rats with the tricyclic antidepressant
nortriptyline and found that it indeed was able to decrease the amount
of abnormal protein that can build up in the brain. This protein, known
as alpha-synuclein, can cause the brain's nerve cells to die when in a
clustered state and is a hallmark sign of the disease.

Does anyone know if Amitriptyline has the same properties (it's an old tricyclic antidepressant as well) ?
A very experienced French neurologist advised me in March this year to try it... and then very slowly to let go of L-Dopa.

Hi..I was on Amitriptyline...I don't have Parkinson's. . however I was on Amitriptyline and found it gave me a hangover effect..very sleepy in a.m. so Dr put me on Nortriptyline. She said it's a cousin to the Amitriptyline. I had a much better reaction to it...no sleepy in morning. Hope that helps.
