Probably the most convincing hypothesis for the cause of PD has been done using bacteria in the Actinomycetales family. Nocardia and Rhodoccus bacteria were both able to induce parkinsonism in mice. Several decades ago they were thought to be fungi and, like Mycobacterium tuberculosis, they have both fungal and bacterial characteristics.

Additionally, PD has been shown to be genetically related to tuberculosis, leprosy and Crohns.
The cause of TB and leprosy are well known and the putative cause of Crohns is thought to be Mycobacterium about subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). Dr. John Herman Taylor has developed a therapeutic vaccine for Crohns disease:

And at least 1 doctor has hypothesized it as a cause of PD:.
bottom line (to many medical terms and long words) are they saying that TB may be genetically passed down in some form and be a contributing factor to developing Parkinsons.??
that would be very interesting as there was TB on my maternal side at one point....
i'm a believer. I've noticed am odor, fermented i'd say, coming off my skin occasionally. might be tested for that way. problem is how do you get rid of mold infection, only thing I know of is garlic.
It was interesting to me because I lived in a house that got flooded often so I have no idea how much mold & chemicals I was exposed to for 19 years. My sister who was 13 years older & I were dxed in 2004 when I was 54. Another sister in the middle doesn't have it. I hope they hurry up to find this out & come up with a cure!
I had my house tested for mold the mold inspector found mold all over the house the roof is leaking and the shower under the house is full of mold
no one has PD in my family my husband doesnt beleive it that mold caused my PD
This report from 2013 was from fruit fly experiments. Mold may be linked to defects in two genes involved in the creation and transportation of dopamine.
Guess we have a few years of research ahead to learn more.
Interesting to mr, Hikoi as I had an actinomyces infection, anaerobic, immediately prior to developing my first symptoms of PD in approx. 1994/5. Followed 2 years of IUD place ent which was supposed to be copper 7 but which proved to be a banned one (name eludes me) very crab like in shape that was associated specifically with actinomyces. Oddly enough this same varmint (actinomyces) could well be implicated in the transport of e.coli to spine as a satelite organism that it likes to travel with. It is quite a mobile critter. Today when the vast cocktail of drugs has been whittled down to only pd meds what is revealed on wearing off is severely impaired sensation and movement in right hand and PN in both feet, leaving me with only just functioning left had, and some overwhelming failure to initiate movement. A bit long, but not a moan, just documenting it here, because where else could I.
PD or not PD, that is the question, though for now sinemet continues to help me, even though my legs have taken on a life of their own.....
