I just sent my sample in and look forward to the results.

You can help this research by providing your DNA sample and answering surveys online. Over 6,000 people with Parkinson's have joined this study.

I did that but found the results somewhat hard to understand.

Just got a long note from a 3rd cousin who found me through the 23andme Genetic testing. :)

I have 2 more cousins who have been found, but we aren't connected, yet.

Me too. I didn' really wade thru all their explanitory materai.

The results did indicate that with my genotype I had an 85.9% chance of getting PD. What exactly to make of that I don't know.

Interesting. Thank you for the feedback

ALSO I DID NOT KNOW I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 205 DOLLARS TO HAVE IT SHIPPED - WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD - SO HAVE WASTED MY TIME IN FILLING OUT THE FORMS

That is surprising Shasha - like Jerebet mine was free mailing only mine was free from UK. I had to use the service they designated but that wasn't difficult. I joined for a nominal cost over 2 years ago. At that stage they were charging and I picked up a discount code at the Unity Walk in Central Park NY. Now it is free for PwP which is great. For those who do join they occasionally give very generous family offers.

From their last news letter:

"Our Parkinson's Research Community now exceeds 6,500 members. We published our first Parkinson's research paper and identified a genetic factor that may protect against Parkinson's disease in those at high genetic risk.

We are still seeking 3,500 people with Parkinson's to participate in this research for free. If you know someone with Parkinson's, please encourage them to sign up.

We are truly grateful for your participation in this research. There is strength in numbers and 2012 promises to bring us closer to a cure for Parkinson's"

I too spit in the tube. Hope it helps as part of the database. The information I got got back was interesting but not certain how useful it was for me.

But it was free:D

Thank you. Mine was free as well.

I too found the results to be a bit daunting. My report showed I had a "typical risk" of PD. I hope the information is helpful to further research and find a cure.

I also had mine done and I do the surveys, all it can do is help with research. But I don't understand what they are talking about! At first they said I had less than a typical risk. Then they updated and said I have a more than typical risk. I was diagnosed 16 years ago.

Since my Mother had PD, I want to know if I have the genetic marker. I hope it tells me.

Have you spit and mailed? Chances are you won't get it. It seems to be certain markers that run in families, such as aunts, uncles, grandparents etc. I've told my children not to worry.

I just returned my kit and I'm looking forward for the results

I'm also happy to help find a cure for PD

Your days are numbered PD. You might have the upper hand right now, but we have a bullseye on that ass.

Using the kit

I removed the tube with funnel top

Then spat but there was not a drop

Yet on my pillow, just last night

My spit and slobber was a sight

I read the help notes then the letter

“Fill to the line” - I must do better

It required all my concentration

To collect my sample salivation.

I massaged my cheeks and sucked and swilled

Determined that this tube be filled

Did no one else have all this trouble

My spits dried up there’s not a bubble

I must not drink I must not eat

I’m not allowed to suck a sweet

For fifteen minutes I sucked and gurned

Spitting's not a craft I’d learned.

I underestimated all the trouble

( it would take with spit and bubble)

to fill my test tube to the line

DHL collect at half past nine

Now I’m relieved its on its way

To genotype my DNA
