New "BLOOD TEST" to detect PD!

I skimmed both of these articles (links below).

But I could not determine if this new blood test is available TODAY - NOW at your doctor's office.

Very frustrating ... So I have to do more research on this GROUND-BREAKIING diagnostic tool!

----------------------------------------------

"A new blood test that assesses damage on a particular type of DNA may help in the early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, before symptoms start, a new study reports."

“Currently, Parkinson’s disease is diagnosed largely based on clinical symptoms after significant neurological damage has already occurred,” Laurie Sanders, PhD, an associate professor at Duke University School of Medicine, in Durham, and the study’s senior author, said in a university news story.

“A simple blood test would allow us to diagnose the disease earlier and start therapies sooner,” Sanders said, adding that an early “clear-cut diagnosis would accurately identify patients who could participate in drug studies, leading to the development of better treatments and potentially even cures.”

The study, “A blood-based marker of mitochondrial DNA damage in Parkinson’s disease,” was published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.

The only use I can see for this test is to measure a treatment's effectiveness. I see no benefit in an earlier diagnosis.

I don't agree.

For the last month or so I've been thinking about getting the PD skin biopsy test.

But a simpler, less invasive "blood test" would be much better!

My husband had the A-syn1 test - it was a breeze.

Initially I thought how would this help but possibly with changes in exercise, diet, supplements and other areas maybe it would slow progression or make symptoms milder

This could definitely change and maybe eliminate symptoms if detected early on maybe stop the cells from folding.

I wish when they came out with these articles they would give an actual timeline of when this would be available to the general public
