Hi there Readingagatha

I suspect as with most things, everyone is different.

However, my husband and I were out and he drank a small skinny latte and didn't take any CREON (only once and never to be repeated) and he had to rush to the toilet.

Not good.

He can, however, have a small skinny Cortado (about two mouthfuls) without any CREON which we do most mornings when out.

Stay strong

Hi Readingagatha. I take 3 x 25000 Creon with main meals and 2 x 25000 with snacks. I drink 1 - 2 machiatos a day and i don't take Creon with it. I don't eat cream and cakes. Cakes are full of fat (usually) and sugar. I think you better stay away of cakes.

Hey hello Jesus5

Very same as my husband (macchiatos being very similar to Cortado) and defo no cream or cakes her either. Also same dose of CREON

If you don't mind me asking, have you tried to vary the dose of CREON?

Keep well

I take 2 times 35000 Creon's with meals & 2 times 25000 creons with snacks but I do enjoy 2/3 cappuccinos a day & occasionally a leche leche, I take 1 times 25000 Creon before. The same with milkshakes or ice cream. Having been without pastries or cakes for over a year I decided to try them, I take 2 times 25000 before & so far no ill effects & I have put on weight. Hearing all your comments I feel very fortunate

Hi Frazzled88. I have CP and EPI almost 13 years. I ve been taking 2 x 25000 Creon with main meals and 1 x 25000 with snacks for 12 years. Last year my gastro dr. put me on 3 x 25000 and 2x 25000 for snacks. She also prescribed Ensure plus advance and Vital 1,5 kcal once a day and i ve gained 3 kg or so... But thats not enough. I am still underweight and weak. I am 1.90 m tall and only 70 kg. She also insist that i have to take 40 mg Pantoprazole a day or every other day, but i ve been on it for years and now i have osteoporosis, i don't tolerate it well ( headache, dhiarhea, feel bad). I think that PPI s are potentialy dangerous medicine, they can induce bacterial infection, osteoporosis, even some cancers...,and i simple don't take it. Maybe i should take them again. I am in serious EPI. Again, i think PPI s are dangerous. Don't know what to do.. I know they can protect Creon from stomach acid and make it more effective, but i ve read some scientific medical article where they say that PPI s don't help at all and can do serious damage... Interesting, my primary care dr. think that i take too much Creon. What a mess...

Hi  Jesus5 - thank you so much for taking the time to answer my query.

Husband is 1.78 and 80kg so not a bad weight. His weight has reduced from 85kg since he has come home from hospital even with drinking Ensure plus advance (usually 3 per day) and eating three meals (albeit very small) per day. However, his ascites has reduced around his abdomen as has the cellulitis in his arm and leg due to several DVTs in his neck and abdomen so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this constitutes the majority of his weight loss.

He is also on Lanzoprazole 30mg (a PPI) daily which i believe is similar to Pantoprazole and I will ask about the long term side effects when we next have a review - thank you for the warnings.

Husband also takes 3 x 2500 CREON with each meal and 2 x 2500 CREON with each snack (although he is very reluctant to snack as never hungry) so honestly only takes 9 x 2500 CREON per day. This is as described by the hospital Dietitian and we have never adjusted this or experimented with more/less at each meal. From what the hospital told us, there are no/few side effects from too much CREON and everything to be gained from not having steatorrhea.

But we are but babies at this having only been discharged from hospital in July this year so still finding our feet.

I wish you a pleasant and healthy day

My consultant told me that taking too many Creon will not affect my pancreas & if necessary the body just expels any excess

I have lactose free milk with coffee but I don't like milky coffee. Also hot chocolate , occasionally a cream cake and any cream is plant based. I cannot take the likes of Creon as allergic to pork. Fortunately I have no bother without them.
