Not sure at the moment what is going on with me but have been advised to have a CT scan because of my symptoms to check my Pancreas. My first question is is it possible to have an MRI scan in place of the CT as I am worried about the radiation from a CT?

Hi, D9's
I think that's something you'll need to discuss with your Dr.
Yes, MRIs give a better image of soft tissue in the body and often more easily seen tumors, etc. CTs are better at imaging hard points in the body (think bones)
However, many doctors have specific reasons for using one over the other. You might try talking to them. Let them know your concerns.
It could also be an insurance or office policy issue, so check with them to see what can be done.
I wish you the best and hope it is not your pancreas causing the issues. But if it turns out to be, at least you know where to come for support!!!
We're always here ♥♥♥
Thank you for your kind reply.
If you don't mind me asking, what are your symptoms?
Some pain that comes and goes in my abdomen. Floating stools. And some possible problem with a blood test result that I need to find out more about. Have had two more stool tests done and waiting for the results of these.
I have also lost my appetite since quite a while.
I see. Those do sound a lot like PC symptoms. Do you get nausea?
That was always the worst symptom (other than extreme pain) that I got prior to an attack. Originally, I had a lot of weight loss as well. But we're all different.
I hope the wait ends soon. I know I'd rather know what's going on for sure than wonder. (My imagination always makes it so much worse) 😂

I have had some weight loss. It seems to have stopped now though. The pain I get comes and goes and isnt strong pain. I know what you mean with imagination 😂

That's a good sign!
Believe me, a real live pancreatitis attack will have you doubled over in pain. So the fact that it comes & goes without being too strong may be a good indicator that you haven't progressed that far yet - if it is your pancreas causing your issues.
Be sure to let us know the test results! Hang in there. You're amongst friends. ♥
Hi D9d9,I agree with Karen about talking with your doctor regarding which scan is best. Like Karen said, the two look slightly differently at things. I have had heaps of CT scans done over the years…I’m only 42 now. I believe the risk from radiation is minimal. They are widely used as a diagnostic method. But of course have a chat with your doctor who will be able to discuss this with you in more detail and knows your individual situation.
I really hope they get to the bottom of what’s causing your problems soon and can then treat you as best possible!
