just seen your question Elainey, I'm sorry I don't know the answer, but I would recommend you call nhs direct or maybe the ward you were on, or your gp. Please don't struggle on. keep in touch.

regards, sandra.

Elainey, were you advised about your diet post surgery?

I remember my mother and mother-in-law both had their gall bladders removed. My mother was fine afterwards and was able to eat pretty much anything. My mother-in-law, on the other hand, continued to have problems, having to go back to being careful about her diet in case it caused her to develop the pain. Things did get better for her over time, but there's not much consolation for you there. I do remember something to the effect that you have to be careful with your diet to begin with and not rush back into eating all those lovely things you have had to deny yourself for a long time. My mum did take it slowly, whereas m-in-l was a little less careful and couldn't wait to taste her first fried egg in years! I have no idea whether this was a factor or not. I do not know if this 'advice' was valid, or just an urban myth but I thought I would share it with you as a possible reason for your pain. But absolutely, you must go to your GP to have this checked out. Don't continue to suffer with it.

My sister also had her gall bladder removed and suffered for a long time with pain after, then she was told a stone had separate and became lodged in her liver, it was removed and now she is pain free, so ask the question! Good luck

I was told i could eat anything after my gallblader removal but i am very careful with what I eat and have been for a long time, I have had scans and blood test and they have all come back ok, I am now taking 50mg of amitriptyline a day which helps with the pain - thankfully. But they still don't know what's wrong or what's causing the pain. I will take another trip to the doctors and I will ask the question about other stones. Thank you for your help x

Hi Kaido, I had all kinds of tests and finally got diagnosed with sphincter of oddi dysfunction, this can be caused by removal of the gallbladder, it can be sometimes be diagnosed by a hida scan. An ercp is tbe best way to diagnose it.
