It’s not great but your wife’s pain must be severe as she waits for knee operation. The difficulty is that eventually they may not be enough to contain pain…..I take dihydrochdine for back pain. I try to only take them when pain is dreadful. Otherwise I take over counter medications especially ibuprofen. This way I feel I won’t get dependent on one medication. I also try to take medications sparingly and use heat packs and so on when pain bearable.

It is horrible and very wearing to be constantly in pain. It colours everything else in your life. I hope your wife doesn’t have to wait too long for her operation but am aware from media reports that people are having to wait a considerable amount of time.

It’s hard dealing with pain. It’s draining and a little help goes a long way. I have had 5 spine ops and am still taking dihydrocodeine for the lingering pain. I try to take as little as possible but it’s usually the nights that makes me need one. I understand from the other reply your wife needs a knee op. I have a friend who has had two knee replacements. She was in a lot of pain before but feels a lot better now and is reducing her meds.
