Ibs anxiety and the dismissive way the medical profession treat it 😕

Anyone else feeling utterly fed up with chronic ibs … seems no one in the “ medical “ profession seems to think this is a serious issue and doesn’t realise just how depressing and hard it is to live with

Especially if it causes panic attacks 😣

Hiya, there are specialists out there who know what to do.I don't know how long you've had it but it took me 2 years to get officially diagnosed. It can be scary both physically and mentally.with me,it made me totally fatigued and so so anxious. For additional help, you could contact the NHS website for more advice or type crohns/ibd into your computer for more help/advice.Ive used crohns & colitis uk in the past. These type of groups know lots but it also affects everyone differently.ive had mine about 20 yrs,can you tell me how long you've had this and what stage you're now at.The earlier you get properly treated, the quicker you should get a little more control of your life.gd luck

The difficulty with IBS is that it is a collection of symptoms rather than the cause of the symptoms. For example I have the connective tissuecondition Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and many people with that have IBS, cause by the digestive tract not working properly. Other people might have Crohns, allergies, mast cell problems. And yes, anxiety can cause it too, but the problem has been that it was assumed that IBS, in particular in women, was caused by mental health problems, stress or anxiety. Many doctors still believe that. It makes it very difficult to get a proper diagnosis or treatment.

I hope you can get some relief soon. It can be a horrible thing to live with.

That must be so frustrating. Would it be possible for you to write up what a bad day and night looks like - and what causes the panic. A kind of typical day - what you did, what you ate, drank and include what is going on with the IBS and panic attacks - might help bring it to life for the professionals?

Thank you for taking the time to respond and your helpful comments

I have found that a wholefood plant based diet can massively help chronic IBS, but also, another factor mainstream Doctors ignore that there is an emotional backstory to the condition, that flares up the reaction of the vagal nerve, which stretches through the lungs, heart, stomach and bowels.

For 10 years i suffered chronic pain which was caused by an accidental overdose which damaged the nervous system leading to Atrial Tachycardia and Atrial Fibrillation. I had 2 ablations, the first op put me into constant Afib, which was a disaster, however the Dr fixed it the 2nd time by doing a Pulmonary isolation. It worked!, however.

I still had the same cramping feelings, sinus pressure, chronic pain, stabbing nerve pain, nervous rushes. In the middle of the night the sound of a door creak would be like i was being shocked with electricity and the more tired i became, the more intense it was. My food all felt like it was stuck in my throat, my eyes felt like the back muscle of the eyes were sucking my eyes into the socket. In turn I would feel breathless, but more the feeling of breathlessness, and on falling asleep would be shocked mildly, and so keeping me awake for hours. In the end zopiclone saved my sanity for sleep.

I had so many other strange symptoms, which i know now were all related to a damaged nervous system. Thats what Fibromyalgia I believe, is. Nerve damage. I would also get a burning chest pain, not too intense but constant enough to grind you down, with all the other symptoms as well. Once my Dr told me that what i was suffering was anatomically impossible.

Let me tell you about Doctors.

They are perfect at physical injury trauma, it is my first port of call, the only port of call for physical injury, and there is no equal for that. Hands on healing or Bach flower remedies doesn't cure my half missing leg!

But, Doctors when dealing with illusive nonsensical symptoms, are forced to stab in the dark when it comes to the Brain/nerve/Heart Neural connection.

Something, the vast percentage of, know very little about. Doctors, still know very little , about curing diseases like this and do not have any hope of any cures. Its all about symptom management with drugs.

"Oh that works, take this"

Usually the start of IBS, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ME, and other chronic conditions have an unaddressed underlying trauma. It can be anything from childhood anxieties, to the affects of a car crash, or excessive body trauma, Psychological trauma.

In my case it was damage to Nerve endings in the vagal nerve that triggered the extra pathways in my heart that caused the Heart issues, and thus forth, led to deeper complications.

The hardest thing you will ever do in life is face yourself.

You need to express or talk what started all of this dis, ease. Its part of the healing to burden your body of psychological and emotional pain. Talk to a willing friend, a therapist, Social worker, counsellor. Every illness has a backstory and with mine came feelings of hatred, resentment, fear , anger, frustration, and despair. You need to unburden yourself in some way. Speaking in the mirror helped me no end, when no one was in the house. I bared my soul, to myself and told myself i was Ok, that things would get better (and they did).

There is a second more important factor to this recovery. Considering this is a bowel, gut/ stomach issue, the best thing for this and so many Chronic conditions of the 21st century.

Is the wholefood plant based diet.

Our modern diet is a vast menagerie of processed sugars fats, meat (of which 50% of all drugs is used to medicate or bulk up meat with steroids, antibiotics etc etc) Never has the human body been so under attack by so much innutritious empty fat, salt sugar laden crappy processed fast food. Its all about energy intake and nothing about the quality of that intake.

This all causes "Inflammation", it is an injury to the bodies system. It can never heal when it is constantly fighting Inflammation on a daily basis. Your body needs good untainted fuel to heal and the body is a pure mechanical healing mechanism, all in itself.

Give it the break it needs from fighting food that clogs up the arteries, makes you feel sluggish and poisoned and try to look as much as the calorific value the quality of the fuels nutritional value. I promise you, you will feel like a war in your body has ceased. It will return to peace.

I am not an advocate for this type of diet, and nor do i come from the church of Vegan preaching. ITs just how i changed my life, for the better and dug myself out of a trench of which, i never thought possible. It just so happens to be the cure for all the illnesses that ravage the human race right now.

"Sick parasites only take root, in sick bodies"

I recommend this book very highly:

Its a pleasure, and its help save so many people with chronic conditions. What the medical industry cant deal with drugs, they dont acknowledge a problem, but it is to us, and that is not due care, its ignorance.
