Hi, I'm Keith, I suffer from chronic pain. I have pain and stiffness in my back and down my legs when I'm walking, I've had a scan 6 years ago and they say I have arthritis of my 5 vertebra, I've had this chronic pain for 6 years now but it's only when I'm walking, I'm perfectly pain free when I'm at rest, I've had all the usual treatments like pain medication physiotherapy, pain management but nothing works, I'm wondering if it's a psychological problem. I go to the gym twice a week and do strength exercises. The pain when I'm walking gets me down at times but I always try to stay positive and I'm always trying to find ways to help myself and that's a reason I've joined this group. Would be nice to hear from someone with a similar problem and have had some positive results

Kind Regards

Keith

Hiya Keith,it seems that when the docs don't have all the answers,it's usually psychological.Ive had chronic back pain for about 12 years. This goes into both hips, into both legs.Ive had 2 scans, results clear so you know they think it's more mental. So if I don't do my physio daily and exercise daily also,my body aches all over the next day.I only take painkillers at night but not very often.I choose to not go back to the docs and know I've gotta do my rehab at least 5 times a week and usually work out daily to keep my hips as open as possible.best of luck Keith,as long as you're stretching regularly and moving more, you should feel less achy.not sure where you live but check what help is available in your town.We have BEATS in ours where they can chat about different ways forward.ie.physio sheets, tips, advice and they're very helpful.Hopefully you find something similar.best of luck Keith.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate any advise from people like yourself who have similar pain problems as me, I really have tried everything, the pain management specialist offered me injections in my spine but I can't see the point because it will only mask the problem then I'll be back again for more injections, It really is strange that in 2021 all these doctors and so called specialist can't diagnose the problem.

I'll just have to carry on reading books and trying self help.

There's one exercise I do that really helps and that is were I go into a deep squat and hold for 30 seconds I do this 3 times, I do this before my morning shower, it really helps to open my hips and it's given me more flexibility but I still have the pain when I walk. Thanks again my friend and I hope you can find a solution to your chronic pain problem. Take care. Keith

Hi Keith this is just a suggestion to try it worked for my friend, she tried a heated back brace , she still gets pain if she walks too much but it helps her to walk so far without pain or having to rest. Best Wishes.

Thankyou for your reply Katie, I have tried the back brace but not the heated one, i will try your suggestion, if it helps in any way then that can only be a positive. I have tried all kinds of back support but none help, I just try to keep my core muscles strong through exercise, thankyou again and take care. Keith.

Not psychological. I have something similar but only after i stand for about 5 minutes and a feeling that my left leg is affected and will not respond. The pain immediately ceases when i sit or lie down. I had the usual MRI scan only to be told they could not not see the problem and was referred to physio. Naturally I declined as 1. they could not id the problemand 2 . they would make it worse. I pointed out that as the problem only occurred when i was upright so why would a horizontal mri scan show

anything ? Dismissed ! I feel let down but have accepted my walking days are over apart for about a hundred yards or so without terrible pain.

Yet said pain immediatly disappears as i sit down. Exactly the same for years.

Thankyou for you reply Darkin, I really appreciate your feedback as you sound like we have something similar, I agree about the MRI scan, it should be done standing, I was led down but my results shown the connection between my 4th and 5th vertebra was worn 50% due to arthritis. They offered me injections but I declined so they signed me off and said there nothing they can do. I'm not convinced that there diagnosis is right because I can go gym and do strength exercises sitting and standing but when I start walking forward the pain and dull ache start to build up in my back and legs to a point were I have to sit down, the pain then completely goes away. 10 minutes later I can carry on again, it's quite depressing at times because I want to do things but this stops me in my tracks, thanks again for your feedback, it's really helpful knowing that other people have the same problem, I really hope you can get some help from somewhere as you sound like your worse than me. Take care my friend. Keith

Hi Keith. I too suffer with chronic pain. It is mainly in my legs too. Up and down stairs all day at home kind of a burning pain. I can’t walk to the shops without struggling to get back. The patches help a lot. Hopefully when lockdown over I can get to a pain clinic

Thankyou for your reply Sandy, it sounds like you have a similar problem as me, I get the burning pain in my back and hamstrings when I walk. it`s such a relief when I sit down because the pain eases to no pain at all after a few minutes, I've had back scan, x-rays, hip scan, physiotherapy, pain management clinic. they have diagnosed me with arthritis of the spine and offered me injections but I wasn`t convinced so declined so they sighed me off, I'm still in pain and it`s 6 years now, the only positive is that it`s not getting worse so I've learnt to live with it. Take care and i hope they can treat you with a positive outcome....Keith

Hi. I believe all my problems stem from my bad back and hip problems. Had injections in my L5 a few times which really helped and for bursitis. All got worse when I had a slipped disc and now nothing seems to ease it. I may try a belt

Hi there, have you tried a sacroiliac belt. I can't walk very far because of pain on left side. It's my sacroiliac joint that's the problem. The belt really helps when I'm on my feet. Pain eases when I rest.I try and do exercises but sometimes makes it worse. Not good is it this chronic pain.xx

Hi Keith. Pain is not fun. I, and so many others have found relief using the Bemer medical device. Some people have results after just one or two sessions. Others it takes longer but it is always increasing blood flow in your micro vessels. Blood flow is the river of life. Unfortunately I'm in the states and you're in the UK, or I would offer you some free sessions on mine. They do have a 30 day money back guarantee though. My recommendation is to try it if you haven't already because it's changing lives.

Hi Keith, I'm so sorry to hear about your pain-I more than empathize. I need surgery but am told that I'm too old and my health prohibits-damn their eyes. I say this to tell you I know what you are going though. Have you ever tried a tens unit. I became allergic to the electrodes but it used to save me. You can look it up as it is difficult to explain. Hope this helps! Regards, Gina Y
