Looking for peer led chronic pain online groups

Hi guys. I am a carer for my brother who recently broke his back and pelvis. he really needs someone to talk to other than a professional. Someone who understands his pain. He is suffering physically and psychologically and I think some sort of peer led group, possibly on zoom, would be really beneficial. However I'm struggling to find any. Is anyone aware of any groups being run online, which he could attend? Many thanks in advance.

Thanks hippolove1 very much appreciated. He's very isolated and has no one to talk to so we thought if there are any zoom calls he could join in where you get to chat face to face, this would help him greatly. Is there anything like that on here?

It must be very difficult for him and you at present have you been in touch with the pain control nurse in your area

Thank you. Yes he's speaking to the nhs professionals but lots of the information being provided is too vague or clinical and they often contradict what his physiotherapist advises to do in regards to exercises and stretching. Speaking to and interacting with people in a similar situation, especially in a group setting, would improve his mental and physical health so much but unbelievably there don't seem to be any out there, not that we can find.

Maybe you could start your own Zoom group. I don't know how you do that but I bet someone does. Please tell your brother how sorry I am he has pain. I have lived for 70 years with pain every single day. The pain changes you, it colors your thinking. The constant seeking of pain relief wears you out, the pain fatigues your body and it just an endless search. Friends and love ones say they understand when you cancel out on plans or you have to go lie down, but after awhile they tire of it and just kind drop off the face of the world or get to a point they don't ask how are you doing for fear of the answer.

A hard lesson for me to learn and I am still trying to learn is how to ask for help without making yourself think you are weak, needy or even worse a burden.

I hope you are doing some things to take care of yourself. That is so important.

Hi there I'm so sorry to hear about your brother the poor soul going to need all the support he can get . I've had back surgery and been living with chronic pain for years now. My mum had broke her back and to be honest she recovered really well after wearing a brace for a good few weeks. I have recently started on cbd oil 40% and I must say it does dull the pain maybe you should suggest this to your brother. It will affect him mentally but that's absolutely nothing to be ashamed about while woyldnt be affected ? Like everyone else on here who is suffering I might just help if he were to join some chat I've found it helps listening to other people's stories as we are all in the same boat. Tell your brother he is not alone and on here people really do understand and can relate to how your brother is feeling. Hope he gets better soon
