Costochondritis can occur at any time, whether or not there is a fall and a break. There are ligaments and muscles between all the ribs and the breastbone, and ligaments can take a long time to heal too, longer than bone. Also, it might be that the two aren't related. Lots of people will have Costochondritis without having broken a rib.
Hi
I had a fall in April didn’t think anything of it then a strange hard lump appeared June back rib also had strange achy sensation with muscle spasm under front rib. Sent for ct scan eventually one year on seems to be bruised ribs and Costo as I have pain when you touch the front breastbone so it can be caused by a fall or it can just develop but I think my fall caused it. Ribs feel sore and tender all the time.
