It is also used in the uk for pain, including migraines. I am on Gabapentin, another anticonvulsant, it has been a big help for nerve pain.

I know Pregabalin and Gabapentin were originally developed as epileptic drugs now used for pain. But didn't realise same for Topamax.

Sorry I haven’t been on it, but know others have with various results. When trying the anticonvulsants it can sometime be trial and error to find the one that works best for you. If Topamax doesn’t help or causes side effects, Pregabalin or Gabapentin can sometimes be a better option.

Gabapentin gave me weird depressing dreams.

I used Topamax for a couple years for severe chronic nerve pain in conjunction with Lyrica. I found that it did help me, and in higher doses it actually causes weight loss. However, I accidentally found out by reading that it has a side effect in some people in creating kidney stones. So I had to stop taking it because I was having kidney pain and scans showed I was developing stones. This does not happen in all people, but it was a little known side effect that it took a lot of research on my part to discover.
