I have Complex regional pain syndrome in my left arm which occur due to a fracture to my ulnar styloid. In 2016 I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted to help control the pain and allow me to have use of my arm. I was lucky enough for it to work well for me. In feb 2017 I started training as a chef again, a career that I began in 2014 and one I would give anything to get back to. Unfortunately I had occasional flare ups and in August I pushed it too hard and had to leave this career path once again.
Three months later and despite trying to get part time or seasonal work that involved no use of my arm I am unable to hold down a job. In early October I had a severe flare up and was prescribed oramorph, codeine, diazepam and an anti sickness again; all of which came with side effects. A month later and I’ve been advised not to take the painkillers to avoid an addiction on top my on going issues and it has now been discovered that there is a small piece of bone fragment in my soft tissue. Although the spinal cord stimulator is helping to control most of the crps pain it has little effect on this pain. I am currently unable use my arm, work, cook and even wash and brush my own hair. I am lucky enough to have such supportive friends, family and boyfriend who are helping me physically and despite protests financially.
I am now anticipating what will happen next and hope that there is a point in my near future where I can begin to move on with my life with out major setbacks.
