I've been off of pain meds now for 3 months is it necessary to continue my prescribed stool softeners? I am still taking the stool softener. What do I need to do?

The best way to find out is to stop taking the stool softener and see what happens. You might find you need to increase the amount of fibre in your diet.plenty of veggies will help too. and drink more fluid.

Rather than stop them all at once can you slowly cut back? For instance if you have been taking three sachets of Luxedo you could drop to two for a week, then one, and see how it goes.

If you were taking them the to side effects off a medication then I don't see why you would keep taking them. Just stop. If you find your bowels ok then your fine. If you still have trouble going take them?

I tend to agree, I would reduce them slowly. If you 'Suddenly' stop, something your body is now "used" to, you risk Very bad constipation! Do you have a 'Friendly' Doctor/Consultant, even GP, you can discuss this with?
