Hi,

I am being put on Fenetyl Patches after no joy with Tramadol.

I am concerned as I am going on holiday and will be in sun for all of the duration.

I am also going threw the change (I'm 53), so am having a lot of hot flushes all the time. I have read all things about these patches and yes the pain is very bad (I have arthritis, in hips, knees and spine),

I don't want to change my life, and want to live everyday with no pain, but am worried that these patches will put a block on everything.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Best thing is have a word with a pain specialist I always let my body cool down after a hot bath before putting a new patch on.As for the sun I'm no expert but I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave in full glare of sun maybe you can cover the patch like I say I'm on 50mcg but no expert I always if in doubt ask it is a very powerful drug have a great holiday lying on a nice beach will do wonders for your pain.xx

Avoid direct sunlight and hot climate. Also, avoid tight coverings over the patch and strenuous exercise, which can heat the body. The body absorbs too much medicine with excessive heat.

I would speak with you pharmacist, GP or pain Consultant.

It would be better not to make a change like this when a holiday is coming upYou don't know how you will react to the Fentanyl and certainly heat makes them less able to stick properly. The instructions mention avoiding heat. You need to discuss these changes with your GP.

Hi like you I am on fentanyl patches and 53 I have found that hot flushes are not a problem for me. If you have difficulty with them sticking to your skin I always dust the area with talc which really helps to stick them to your skin. With heat I have in the past put a heat pad on it on day 3 when the drugs are beginning to wear off and all that happens is you feel sleepy and a bit nausea although you may find that these are stronger on day 1 and 2. I hope that this helps
