I've just been diagnosed in the last week with this. Mine was spontaneous onset linked with weight loss. I agree it is agony and as I have other nerve problems has left me in chronic pain. My consultant has suggested lidocaine patches, I'm waiting for my GP to agree to this. My normal analgesia does not even touch this pain. I completely empathise with you.

I had angiogram 5 years ago. They hit a nerve in my groin this has left me with severe pain so I sympathise with you. Nerve damage is hard to deal with and the meds aren't that effective anymore. I hope you find relief.

Hi, I had a hip replacement 5 years ago and have had back, sciatica, bursitis, and nerve damaged, many times disabling and very painful. Have had many doctors, today a new one, MRI's, nothing they can seem to do for me. Pain killers don't touch the pain most the time, allergic reaction to a lot of pain killers. Once in a while the Lidocaine patch will help.

Good luck will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks for your messages , I now intend to try pulsed radio frequency let's hope that works?

Hi DocDownes,

Did you get nerve conduction studies done to confirm the nerve involvement? Sounds very unfortunate, was this directly noticed after the operation? There are really two types of nerve injury, conduction block or degeneration, where the nerve is either squashed/bruised or cut. Depending on the type if the injury/lesion is addressed you do get improvement, it just takes a long time. Good luck with the radio frequency stuff, let us know how it goes and if you get improvement!

Hi Denhaz,

Yes directly after leaving hospital I realised something was wrong, I have now found out to my cost that direct anterior hip operations are rejected by most orthopedic surgeons due to the risk of nerve damage. My situation was compounded due to a large blood clot being left on the hip joint which should have been drained within 48 hrs of the op instead it was left over 2 years and was solid and despite numerous attempts could not be removed. When the revision op took place 8 months after the first it was not removed. I have had EMG studies and endless scans plus an op to decompress the nerve and recently a nerve block injection none of which have worked. So I am praying this new procedure which will cost me £2000 will work?

Thanks for your good wishes,

Paul
