I've been taking 2700 my of gabapentin for the past 4 years and it's started to give me heartburn, I've tried drinking at least 200 mls of water with each dose otherwise they stick in my throat and I've now started to take ranatidine to overcome the unpleasant burning but then they interact with gabapentin, any suggestions please?

Current thinking on Gabapentin dose is that above 1200 per day is not really more effective. So depending on what you are taking it for you might need to consider changes to your medication. Gabapentin is not absorbed well by the stomach.
There is a more effective form called Horizant ( gabapentin / enacarbil ) which converts directly to gabapentin in the stomach and so can be taken in much smaller doses. It's not available here in Ireland, but I think it is on trial in UK and may be available in sample form from some drs.

Since I am taking painkillers my GP put me on Lansoprazole and I never have heartburn. One week I forgot to put it in the morning pills box and I understand what does the painkillers to the stomach. So now first I put in the morning pills box the Lansoprazole and then the others. Hope it helps.
