there seems to be a loop hole in the new bedroom tax, some people may have been mis-charged. please follow this link if the bedroom tax has affected you..

Hi thanks, I didn't want to sound like I was moaning it was just that it felt a bit like a political rant, but now I understand your reasons I understand, and the link is much better as it is still making people it affects aware, so thanks again and sorry if I sounded rude, Viv

I've not read the article.

If people used social housing as it was designed to be used after it's introduction after the war, then there would be no need for bedroom tax. Social housing users were expected to be mobile and move to where the jobs were- flat for singles or couples, then move to a house with family, then back to a flat in retirement. Or leave the system and buy your own house. It was only meant to be a temporary solution, until enough money was saved to buy a house. Some did, but many more decided that their social housing was theirs and they stayed put emulating their neighbours who owned their houses. This refusal to use social housing properly over the decades has caused the hernia, where people are mismatched to the size of house they need. Which in turn causes a lack of appropriate social housing for newcomers to the system.

There is absolutely no reason why people in social housing don't downsize. It's one easy way to avoid the bedroom tax. Those in owned houses do it all the time, retiring to smaller more manageable properties, moving to bungalows to avoid the stairs. why should it be any different for those in social housing?

In later years, I'll be offering a flat/house swop with my children. If they don't want it, then it can be sold and I'll buy a flat and divide the change between them. I certainly don't want to be rattling around in a big house, living in one room because I can't afford the heating. And I don't have bedroom tax in the equation, just a bit of common sense.
