My local hospital just wrote confirming my appointment however it states I'm to attend the nurse clinic my gp told me I was seeing a gynaecological oncologist? I also have to have another ultrasound at the same time. I don't understand! Can someone tell me if this is normal. My local hospital is Liverpool women's x

I had my operation at the WHL ...they specialise in womens gynaecological cancer.... my OC was too advanced to have treatment in Chester...so if you are going to the WHL you are in the right place...best wishes Love x G x

You could give the WHL a ring and ask them to explain what the appiontment is and their intentions....you will have your NHS number on the top of the letter... so they will have your details they could best explain this, it is a very good hospital and if you have something sinister they will deal with it quickly...best wishes love x G x

Hi there

It is not fair that for such an important matter you are not clear about what is happening. Get onto your GP on Monday to find out what is happening and where and when.

You have to be your own advocate here and sadly cannot assume that what you hope to happen always will.

Love

If its any help, I often saw a nurse specialist, they are qualified to do and interpret scans, I think, and tell you any facts about the results. They can then refer to Gynae oncologist if necessary. Hope all goes well

I also saw the oncology nurse for every check up appointment until they thought something was going a bit awry. I now see the oncologist.

Wish I were still in your shoes!

I saw the nurse every time to have weight, height, bloods and urine checked but also saw a member of the oncology team at St James' in Leeds. I was treated for post op infection on the gynae ward at Arrowe Park, while staying with my sister and they were considering transferring me to Liverpool Women's (which is where my sister had her hysterectomy) if they had needed to re-open the wound and drain the abscesses thoroughly. It wasn't necessary but I believe that Livepool Womens has real expertise.

Ring the hospital as suggested and check whether you will see a gynae oncologist. Sometimes you see the nurse practitioners for initial assessment and history and then the onc but you really do need to know which. An ultrasound will give the specialist nurse a picture of what is happening and, if you have had a previous one, she can compare them and note any changes.

Good luck

Margaret
