Why does having cancer cause weight loss?

Can anyone explain why weight loss occurs even when one is eating normally? I seem to have lost about 3lbs in the space of a week which is jolly good news, UNLESS it's due to a recurrence of my cancer.

Hi Lizzie

Thanks so much for that link. It's very informative. I have my 3-monthly check up with my Onc in a week's time and have had my CA125 blood test done ready for when I see him. If things are stable it means I can welcome losing weight, which I do need to do, as I'm at least 1.5 stone over my recommended weight. I have been trying to cut out stodge - eg apple crumble and custard etc - and doing some easy exercises on my Wii Fit Plus, but was getting a bit cheesed off with no apparent result so have lapsed a bit in the past fortnight. Maybe this sudden weight loss is a delayed reaction, in which case bring it on!

Hi Patsy,

Please let us know how you get on with your CA125. The thing I like about the link is that it tells you how much weight loss to be concerned about. I find so many of these things we are supposed to look out for as subjective, I welcome things which are definable.
