Fistula

I've been told that I may have a fistula between the vagina and small intestine and will learn more tomorrow. Has anyone else had one of these or any knowledge of treatment etc?

Sorry, Mary - I don't have any knowledge or experience, but just wanted to say I hope it's something that can be rectified without too much discomfort for you. I suspect it depends on the position and extent.

Hi Mary

I don't know if this will be any help but I had an ileostomy(stoma) formed when I had my debulking surgery to prevent a blockage in my bowel.

I go on to the Ileostomy Association Forum which has been invaluable in providing help and advice. I don't have a fistula but lots of people who write in to the forum have. So it might be worth having a look, you don't have to join to get into the forum although you wouldn't be able to post a question.

I do hope it can be sorted out and like Isadora I just want to send my support.

I am one of the support line nurses. It must be very unpleasant for you and I do hope the doctors will be able to help you with this as soon as possible. I will get in touch one of our medical advisors and get back to you as what the most likely treatment is. Have your doctors advised treatment yet?
