Been diagnosed with clear cell carcinoma Stage 1, grade 3.

2 weeks ago, I had surgery to remove a chocolate cyst. During that surgery my gynae also removed the right ovary as she wasn't too happy with how it looked. I have just received the news 24 hours ago, that the biopsy was not great, and that I had a 2.5cm tumour which is stage 1, grade 3.

I've since seen the Gynae and Oncologist and taken a blood test for CA125 and results due in 2-3 days.

Our gynae said that there was no visual appearance of spreading but obviously she is not an oncologist so the oncologist wants to do surgical staging to find a true answer. Not sure what else to do now as cannot understand why we need to wait for the results of the latest CA125 test? Surely the best answer way they can do the pro-active biopsies rather than wait a few more days.

Has anyone else had similar experience? Any questions to ask or good places to get info?

Thank you

Dear Bells,

I am sorry that you are having a diffricult time.

A chocolate cyst is caused by endometriosis, and is formed when a tiny patch of endometrial tissue (the mucous membrane that makes up the inner layer of the uterine wall) bleeds, sloughs off, becomes transplanted, and grows and enlarges inside the ovaries.

As your oncologist suggests, surgical staging conclusively diagnoses the stage

(spread) of ovarian cancer.

An abdominal ultrasound or a CT scan may be performed.

We have been having some problems with our phonelines, and calls have been cut-off midway through a conversation. The telephone engineers have been and the problems have been resolved.

Please call the Ovacome on 0845 371 0554 if you would like to talk directly with a helpline nurse.

In the meantime, please take care of yourself.
