Hi Ladies.I am now 21 months into remission Stage 3 Ovarian/Primary Peritoneal, just wondered if we have to keep going to see the Oncol every three months ? as there was talk last time of putting me on a 6 month visit ! How has it worked for you ?

Hi, I'm just two months in remission and was told it would be every three months for a year then would be dropped to every six, im finding it hard not having regular contact with my doctor though! Did you feel like this at first? I think sometimes they tailor the follow up to the individual, sorry I'm not much use! X

I have put my trust in the Oncol visits every three months, and just take it from there. My own doctor is nowhere to be seen !! My Oncol nurse is brilliant!! she is always there to talk to and I found this a great help.

Your right about being an Individual we all are and they do have to go by our symptoms alone plus all the knowledge they have in our field.

Take care. x

Hi,

I'm 2 years into remission from 3c ovarian cancer. I remember being desperate at the end of regular chemo just to walk away and forget about it. However; after the first two 3 monthly checks, I was given 4 monthly appointments (I think as much to do with the numbers having to be fitted in as anything). I had thought that after 2 years it might go to 6 monthly, but was told it would stay at 4 with annual CT scans.

To be honest, I no longer resist the checks as I have everything set up through my GP. When I am worried they will happily check my ca125 and let me know the result immediately. They also get my scan results to me immediately even when there are weeks to go to an oncology appointment. This all helps me to feel included in the process, and in control of the situation - both of which are incredibly important to me.

Hayley - perhaps your GP will do the same for you if you are finding the lack of regular contact hard?!

Best wishes,

Isadora

Hi!

Glad you're doing so well, Kefi and Hayley. As usual, Isadora, you speak a lot of good sense! I'm 9 years down the line, and still need the security blanket of a yearly CA125! Yes, I know it can be unreliable and I know that if I feel any symptoms I will get quick referrals, but, to me, that yearly check says "You're still ok" My CNS organises it so I can get a blood test form sent to me and I just ring her for the results. I always have a bit of a celebration when I get the results, even after 9 years! It reassures me somehow. ;-)

Thanks Ladies,

My visit is in four weeks so I will let you know what they come up with.I feel that I would rather go every 3/4 months so that they can catch anything if there is anything going on that is !!

Yes Isadora I would love to walk away from it as well !! but know that this is not going to happen. I to like to be part of it all as well.

Good Luck with your remission Hayley, may it be a long one.
