Does anyone happen to know how long the radiation is in a persons body after Internal Radiotherapy?
Radiotherapy: Does anyone happen to know how long... - My Ovacome
Radiotherapy
I would like to know what you mean by internal radiotherapy.Do you mean an implant was placed in the body? If that is so, may I know why and where it was placed? Please feel free to e-mail support@ovacome.org.uk or call 0845 371 0554 to talk directly and confidentially with the supportline nurses.
I had ovarian and cervical cancer and had 2x 10 hour sessions with a radiotherapy device placed up inside my vagina... i laid in a special room for 10 hours with it in me.. i obviously couldn't walk about or anything.
I went back the following week for my next 10 hours..
I just wondered how long the radiation is inside me thats all x
Dear Tracey
Thanks for getting back to us - presumably the device holding the radioactive material was removed after the first treatment and then reinserted the second time round. Once they have removed the device at the end of the treatment I believe the radiation is no longer active althought the effects of the treatment can continue after the treatment has finished. It is likely that this part of the treatment is for cervical cancer it may be helpful to contact Jos trust the charity that supports those affected by cervical cancer - it is manned by volunteers and not nurses - On Thursday it is manned from 18.30 -21.00 and on Friday it is manned from16.00 -21.00. 0808 8028000
