Ovarian cancer missed during pregnancy?

I'm asking on behalf of my cousin.

She had some scans recently during her second pregnancy, and it seems a mass has been found in her ovaries.

It's not confirmed yet, but her doctor seems quite sure it's ovarian cancer.

However, we are finding it difficult to understand why nothing showed up during her first pregnancy only two years ago? Did the scans miss it or does it really grow this quickly?

Would really appreciate some advice. Thank you.

Hi Vika15,

Really sorry to hear this. Must be a very stressful time for your cousin and you all :(

Ovarian Cancer can grow quickly depending on the type. I had my little one in November 2019 and although I wasn't diagnosed until Feb 22. I had symptoms from summer of 2021 and Dec 21 they felt a lump in my pelvic area (it was 10cm by that time).

I do hope everything works out ok and that it's a benign cyst or something 🤞🏼

It most certainly can grow this quickly. I had a cyst that grew 2 cm in 3 weeks. Just be thankful that they have found it now and she is getting the treatment she needs.

Hi they can’t know for sure what it is until it’s biopsies. In my second pregnancy they thought I had an ovarian tumor and it felt like cancer. They did a laparotomy and it turned out to be a fibroid. Thankfully my daughter was fine. Thirty-nine years later I did have OC.
