Waiting for scans

At the end of March I had oophorectomy etc. to remove a suspicious 2.2kg ovarian cyst. Stage 1A clear cell cancer was found in my right ovary and I had 6 chemo sessions as back up. I have been back to the consultant this week and he feels I am clear of the cancer but there is something strange on the scan on the left where the momentum was removed. He is hoping it is from the operation, something that has not quite healed and I am to have a scan in three months to see what is happening. Twelve more weeks of worrying, I wondered if this was normal, does it take over six months to heal/settle down. This took me by surprise and I did not know what questions to ask.

Hi Rexrescue

It can take time for soft tissue to heal and as I imagined it, for the innards that remained after my debulking, to find their place in my abdomen!

There may be scar tissue sorting itself out in there too.

Although scans are useful during diagnosis, the results can be frustratingly vague once the main site is gone.

I’ve had clinicians tell me I had a nodule in my lung, another said it probably wasn’t and if it was I might’ve had it since childhood…

I would suggest you take your oncologist’s opinion that you are clear at face value and get on with doing something fun.

Let him do the checking and humming and haaing..x

Thank you for replying I found it so re-assuring. As time is moving on I am feeling more settled, it is knowing there is a problem but not knowing what the problem is that I find worrying. I have decided I must shelve the problem till next year.

hi, it does take a while to settle down so I would take his word for it. I’ve been told this week that I have a small hernia on the CT scan…..5 years later!! I have been asking about the tiny little ‘dent’ I have, but they’ve always said it’s stitches!!

Try not to worry and enjoy the 12 weeks x

Hi, it's not unusual to have something a bit unclear on a scan, and a 3 month repeat advised. I had the same and the next one was reassuring. At stage 1A it's likely yours will be too, but I feel your pain. It's so difficult not to worry even though we know it does no good! Big virtual hug from me x

my after op scan showed a mark on my liver and so had to have further scan. I think further scan showed it still there but unchanged. The hospital lost interest in it. That is always the best result! I hope they lose interest in you and put it down to being a freckle.

My post treatment scan also showed up unusual areas which turned out to be just part of the reaction to surgery inflammation and healing and that was 7 months after surgery. I am a year after surgery now and I still feel twinges in my tummy as if it isn't properly healed yet. So it does seem to be a long process. Very reassuring for youto have the follow up scan. Sending positive thoughts

Hi. I had a fairly large lymph node at the end of chemo and panicked. I was able to get a PET scan that showed it wasn’t cancer. Apparently it was full of junk from all the dead cancer cells. It has slowly shrunk over the past four years. So try not to worry! Xx

It takes 6 months to a year for everything to settle down inside the abdomen, so if your doctor is not worried, I wouldn't worry.

Thank you everyone for the kind words of wisdom, the doctor was so vague and after 6+ months of bad news it was so depressing to find I was waiting again and maybe the ccc had appeared somewhere else. I know this sounds awful but it was nice to know other people had had similar stories.😊
