pleural effusion

I just found out two days ago I have fluid on my right lung. I had one litre drained yesterday and I’m going next Tuesday to get more drained. Waiting for a CT scan. I was first diagnosed 3 years ago stage 3c. Had interval debulking and declared NED had 2 years on Olapaib. Has anyone any experience and what was the outcome? Thanks

hello Purplerose12, yes same happened to me on recurrence.

I was very sensitive to platinum chemo, which effectively saw off the effusion.

There were complications for me because it was March 2020 and staff in the covid ward wouldn’t believe I had effusion not covid!

As a result I had two IPC drains fitted… because they’ve caught you early you may not need these permanent drains but I would recommend if you do need ongoing drainage.

I am currently on Olaparib and free of drains, fluid and breathing well xx

Thanks for your reply, do you mind me asking where was your recurrence? Pleased to hear chemo saw off your effusion. Hope you are doing well on Olaparib xx

It was in the nodes in my chest, hilar node, liver, so a bit of everything but I had a delay of 9 weeks before chemo was started x

I developed a pleural effusion earlier this year which signalled a recurrence for me. Thankfully regular drainage and chemo has dried it up. X
