Carboplatin
Hi. Sorry about the beast being back. It’s most likely anemia. Have you had blood tests recently?
Yes that’s normal as Carboplatin affects your red blood cells. You should find as you get towards the next dose the side effects get better. The hospital will be aware and monitor your blood for anaemia.
Sorry to hear you are going through this. It’s likely to be anaemia but might also be an idea to get iron studies checked as an iron infusion will help if so. Good luck.
Yes it was for me, carbo for second recurrence. Bloods were fine but always breathless. Same on niraparib! I'm better now, on watch and wait and no chemo meds (the carbo did a good job for me at the time, don't get me wrong).
I don't mean to be alarmist, but I developed breathlessness during chemo last year, which I attributed to the treatment, and no one at the hospital seemed particularly bothered about - so I wasn't. However, my mid treatment scan showed I'd got blood clots on both lungs and I was rushed off for emergency treatment as soon as the scan results were found, and I've been on blood thinners ever since. My oncologist said that the cancer pre-disposes us to blood clots, and the chemo doesn't help. Do get checked out - it probably isn't anything serious, but best to make sure. x
Yes, common (not normal). You might need a blood transfusion, so let your chemo team know asap.
I have had carbo. For frontline and. Gemzar for a recurrence, now I’m on niraparib and Avastin. I have been breathless on exertion the entire 2.5 years since my diagnosis. I always mention it, no doc has ever addressed it. My after visit summaries have even said “denies dyspnea”. 🤷♀️
