What to do if you are platinum resistant? Is this the end? :(((
Is there any platinum resistant?: What to do if... - My Ovacome
Is there any platinum resistant?
My sister has just had a recurrence after 4 months. She has just started chemotherapy again. Is this yourself you are asking for or like me someone close. I can’t comment professionally and will follow your post to see the replies. I am gathering information all the time, and from what I read, no, it is not the end. You always have to believe.

All platinum resistant means is that you have recurred earlier than six months of treatment. Sometimes this happens early on in the treatment cycles and sometimes after years. But you Consequently you are unlikely to be given a platinum drug again as it is unlikely to have any benefit. I recurred within three months of my first line treatment, six years ago but I have had many different chemotherapies since.
Do check with your oncologist what treatment is proposed and also speak to the Ovacome help line as suggested.
Best wishes
didnt you have any platinum chemo after first reccurance? you are 6 years platinum resistant? how long was your remissions due to this time? i am very stressed about this all
Nope. Taxol very effective and platinum based chemo can be tried after a out a year or more.
Hi Inguc I’ve become platinum resistant and have been put on caelyx , hope this puts your mind a bit at rest , there are alternatives xx
Taxol is not Platinum Based and if given weekly it would be a lower dose which is much easier to tolerate. I'm on weekly Taxol at the moment.
Taxol is Chemo so it works the same as other chemo's but is not Platinum so can be used for people who are Platinum Resistant.
Please don’t think that this is the end. I have been platinum resistant in fact platinum refactory right from the outset. I have clear cell. There are other chemo’s and I was offered caelyx br I chose a trial instead. I wet to London for a consultation which opened up new treatments that were not possible locally.
Could I possibly ask who you saw in London? Was it professor Fotopoulou?
My sister has had a recurrence and I have contacted prof for a consultation. I know the care she is under are brilliant but I have to scour all the avenues. She has been given a time scale if this platinum resistant line of treatment is not effective. And I’m aware that all recurrence’s are in different places etc but I just can’t give up.
I'm also platinum resistant. Had Gemzar and Avastin for a recurrence, which was effective. Coming up on two years since diagnosis and I'm doing well!
