Sorry its me banging on again ,I've been on Rucaparib for 10 days and felt sick every day despite taking anti sickness tablets regularly, I did call the chemo unit and they were a bit vague with advice ,but did say to ring back if I don't improve, what I really want to know is will the sickness subside in time like chemo symptoms or am I stuck with it as long as I'm taking Rucaparib, any advice welcome .Cheryl.

Hi Cheryl, I’m sorry to read how you’re suffering with horrible sickness. When I started on Olaparib, I used to produce copious amounts of saliva which is a reaction to feeling sick, although I didn’t feel sick directly if that makes sense. It did gradually ease off although I get it occasionally now if I eat anything sugary.

Hopefully, you’ll start to feel less sicky soon.

I find I’m better if I don’t eat anything for an hour before I take my pills and a couple of hours after. I also find drinking a large glass of water after my pills really helps.

Also, drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps too.

( I use one of those bottles that’s tells you how much to drink throughout the day or I forget!)

Hope this helps a bit.

Hang on in there,

Love Denise xxxxx

Ps I also had those high protein drinks in the early days just to keep my weight stable and give me energy. Because they’re sweet, I always had a glass of water afterwards.

Hi Cheryl. That stinks being nauseous all the time. I’ve been on Olaparib for a year and I felt crap for the first six months but mostly I was okay if I took odensatron in the morning before the pills and took a nap in the afternoon. Having said that, I have never been on the full dose. I’m on two thirds and it’s working well so far—fingers crossed. In hindsight it’s been well worth it. I’ve had a whole year I wouldn’t have had and hope it continues. I have a scan next month which is getting me anxious. I would suggest asking about a dose reduction even temporary. Some people start on a low dose and work up. Xx

Hi. I don't suffer from this, but from what I have read about parps, after the first few months a lot of the side effects diminish. I hope this happens for you, as constant nausea is horible.

I’ve been on the full dose of Niraparib for over a year and haven’t really felt sick. My oncologist advised me to take them at night before bed as she said I’d probably just sleep through any sicky feelings. I’ve never taken them in the day so don’t know if I would have felt sick. Good luck

Hi, you are fortunate that you can tolerate the full dose of niraparib. I started on the 200 mgs., but it was too hard on my blood counts. I take 100 mgs. now, but I take weekly breaks off from that dose once in awhile. This parp can be hard on the blood counts. I’ve never had nausea, just hoping that I can continue. I started in July of 2020. Good luck with this parp, Donna

I'm on Rucaparib , I think that's different, so maybe why I'm on a high dose.

Hi Cheryl, sorry that you were sick. I was replying to Lonsdale about my parp. That’s probably why you replied to me about your Rucaparib. All of these parps can be yucky for sure. My toes are completely numb with chemo and parps. Don’t think that will go away either. Hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Donna

Hi Donna, I was probably confused, not at my best at the moment. On my second anti sickness tablets ,not working , fatigue has really kicked in ,if the house was on fire I couldn't be bothered to move, going to ring chemo unit tomorrow, think the only thing that will work is a reduced dose, hope you're doing ok now .Cheryl x

Hi Cheryl, so sorry that you are still having a problem with nausea and fatigue. These chemos and parps can sure make us feel lousy. I’m doing fairly well, but my 1st covid vaccine caused pain in the back of my leg. The dr. told me to go to the ER and check for a blood clot. It was negative. That pain came on within the first couple of hours after that shot. Sometimes I wonder if that Pfizer vaccine and the parp medicine can cause different side effects. The dr. in the ER thought that my tendons or ligaments became affected. I’m just so sick of all these medicines that are pumping through our bodies. We are doomed if we do and doomed if we don’t. What a crazy life we have fighting cancer! 😥 Take care, Donna xx

Hi Cheryl,I just started Rucaparib & was nauseous straight away.

I’ve read that it’s advised to take anti sickness med. an hour & a half before taking the Rucaparib, so, I’m trying that today.

I’ve also seen where people say nausea does subside, for most people.

🤞 & best of luck with it. Gretta

Hi Gretta, can I ask how you got on by taking your antisickness first please, as i've been on Rucaparib for just over 2 weeks now and feel absolutely drained from fighting the nausea, so much so that i'm ready to throw in the towel :( x

Hi, I am on 500mg now twice a day, sometimes feel a bit nauseous but generally not. I take the anti sickness at least 11/2 hours before. I tried to knock middle of day anti sickness off but felt awful. I have been on Rucaparib since before Xmas and gradually increased dose. I did start on highest dose and could not eat, so the Oncologist suggested I start on the lowest dose and then build it up. I hope this sorts itself out for you as it is just awful otherwise. x

Hi Cheryl, I take niraparib at night just like Lonsdale said. They reduced my dose, because it was hard on my blood counts. I’ve never suffered from nausea, but sweet things always taste great when I was doing chemo and now this parp. I have to be careful, because I don’t want to get diabetes. At least my weight doesn’t get too low if I keep eating. Sorry that you have nausea and I hope that something will work for you. Take care, Donna xx

So sorry you are having sickness with something we hope is helping us. I know this may sound silly, but I drank buttermilk when I had tummy sickness, it sure worked for me. God Bless You

Something else try not to drink coffee close to the time you take your pill. That will surely mess with sickness.

Thanks for the advice , I usually end up having a coffee about an hour after I've had my pills so I'll stop that, camomile tea in future.xxCheryl.
