Experiences of paracentesis (drainage of ascites)

Hello

As you may remember, Ovacome are working with Dr Roshan Agarwal, consultant oncologist at Northampton General Hospital, to help clinicians better understand the patient experience of paracentesis, also known as ascites drainage.

Last year we carried out a survey into experiences of paracentesis to be used to inform how treatment is offered in the future. We'd like to thank everyone who participated in the survey, which showed that respondents were overwhelmingly in favour of being given the choice to have the procedure as a day case.

Therefore, we are in the process of writing a policy paper to advocate to NHS trusts and policymakers for patients to be given the choice whether they have paracentesis as a day case or inpatient. Including accounts of patient experience really adds impact and context to the research, so we are looking for members who would be happy to share their experience of paracentesis.

If you would be interested in sharing your experience for the policy paper, or would like more information, please get in touch with us at support@ovacome.org.uk or on 0800 008 7054.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best wishes

Julia (Ovacome Support)
