Avastin sinuses

I’ve been on three-weekly Avastin since April/May last year, and am mostly doing really well. But in addition to achy feet and ankles, I have a constant runny nose, and along with it occasional sinus-y headaches. One of those has hit today and I’m feeling sorry for myself, so wanted to ask if anyone else gets these and if so, any tips for clearing them?

Hello RainbowC,

I had nose bleeds and a dry, blocked nose but not really sinus headaches. For my nose I was advised to use Vaseline and I used a cotton bud to apply it. It acted like a moisturising barrier.

I think you had better speak to you r nurse specialist for advise and maybe something to relieve the sinus headaches.

I hope you find some relief,

Iris 🤗

When my nose isn’t streaming it seems to be really dry, so thanks for the Vaseline tip! I’m hoping the paracetamol and ibuprofen kick in soon...

You could try a nasal douche with warm salty water... normally you would have a syringe with no needle or something with a spout to introduce the water into your nose but you can just sniff it up ( not elegant but effective) don’t swallow it! xx

I had Avastin 3.5 years ago and it wrecked my sinuses, in fact they’ve never recovered x

I constantly sniff 'Olabas oil' available from the chemist. I also now take an antihistamine (run that by your team first' as I think it's worse in the morning and at night just like hayfever. Also keeping very well hydrated and sadly avoiding chocolate has helped too.x

Hi Rainbow love the handle. The runny nose was a constant with me and I did get headaches which I took paracetamol for and they worked. Nose bleeds were also a side effect but only small ones. Keep going kid it's a good drug. All the best Sue xx
