Surprising CA125

Hi all. I had a blood test on 16/3 which recorded 92, up from 13 in December.I had a scan, which confirmed that the dreaded C was back.

As I was feeling well, and with the wards full of Covid patients, I decided to wait a couple of months before starting chemo. I got the results of my latest blood test today, and the number was down to 81- a surprise to me and the onc.

I have now asked for another scan so that we can check the disease progression, and a further blood test. This to take place in the next four weeks before my next consultation.

I just wondered if anyone else has had a CA125 drop while waiting to start chemo?

Jenny

Although I my ca125 is unreliable I did have the experience of being told it was back but then no symptoms for 2 years. It seemed to me at the time that it is sometimes more difficult to tell if the recurrence is minimal than it was for them to diagnose in the first place. I think this is why we are sometimes offered watch and wait xx

Thank you for your reply. I will wait to see what the next scan throws up.

I hope you are finally back at home, and breathing more comfortably now.

My oncologist doesn't go by CA125 as she says a slight rise or fall could be "due to anything" your pending CT scan will give you a more accurate evaluation. Good luck

Yes I know CA125 can go up and down for non cancer reasons, but I didn't think it would go down while the cancer was progressing.I

My CA125 has always been a good indicator of what my cancer is doing.

This marker is not foolproof. I have active cancerous tumors and my ca125 never goes higher than 8.
