Hi, I am an ex-dental nurse and try and avoid sugar and sweeteners at all costs. Unfortunatley, there is so much hidden sugar in processed food. I believe that sugar feeds cancer cells and causes many other problems. Just gradually cut down on the half a teaspoon, you will soon get used to it. Best wishes Jan. x.

I wondered about that as well, I came across this and found it very helpful in helping me understand, especially as I am pre-diabetic.

Just to say there is no scientific evidence that ‘sugar feeds cancer’.

My advice would be that if you enjoy half a teaspoon in a cup of tea then go ahead and if you fancy a biscuit even better!

I think you should avoid sugar, but still, if you like it very much then it is better to get advice from your doctor, maybe he can give you the best alternative option for sugar that will not make any bad impact on you.

Well, it is true that sugar is not good for cancer and it feeds cancer cells, but all our healthy cells need glucose too, and there’s no way of telling our bodies to let healthy cells have the glucose they need, but not give it to cancer cells.

So, in this case, medical advice is necessary to confirm what is best for you.

Good luck & best wishes!

Very controversial subject and sadly one a lot of the quacks out there peddle mercilessly along with celery juice. As someone else said cells are cells so it can be argued that sugar does feed cancer cells too, but by that same dint then so will all food.

Personally, unless you’re also mainlining Haribo and cocktails all day as well then I really wouldn’t lose sleep over the sugar in your tea. Getting small pots of joy from small things is important. X

I can’t find any evidence to support this and given the nature of our disease I think that a bit of sugar in a cuppa that you enjoy is a minor thing. Check with your oncology team if you are concerned but I doubt they will tell you to stop. Keep brewing up and enjoying your tea lovely. ❤️Xx Jane

There is no scientific proof that cancer feeds on sugar. Enjoy a sweet cuppa and concentrate on the good things in life!

Hello All

Sugar and cancer is a complex topic so I thought I'd pass on some links for those who are interested in knowing more.

Here is an article from Cancer Research UK which may be of interest:

scienceblog.cancerresearchu...

As you'll see from the article, currently there isn't evidence that sugar feeds cancer.

However, general NHS healthy eating advice is to limit foods with free sugars, which are those added to foods and those that occur naturally in honey, syrup, fruit and vegetable juices. It doesn't include sugars in the fruit itself or in milk.

There is more information here: nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/h...

The World Cancer Research Fund has information on healthy eating here: wcrf-uk.org/uk/here-help/ea...

This is all general advice and many of you will have specific dietary needs after your treatment for ovarian cancer. Please do ask your team any questions and they can refer you to a specialist dietitian if needed.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes

Anna

I also enjoy sugar in my tea. Perhaps I am burying my head in the sand here but I don’t care. I have spent my whole life looking after my body, eating healthily, exercising, haven’t drank and never even tried smoking. For what!!! Makes me wonder why I bothered. So bring on the sugar bowl.

I wouldn;t worry about it - foods like a white baguette, white rice, white pasta turn to sugar/glucose in the gut in 20 minutes, because all cells need glucose to function, so its probably better to have the sugar in your tea and switch to wholemeal bread, brown rice and pasta and reduce your 'sugar' levels that way..
