Morning ladies , I'm really struggling with my last three chemos post surgery ,1st one kidney infection ,2nd viral infection third one awful cough that makes my head hurt , had last chemo 7 days ago and developed the cough about day three ,temp is fine ,don't feel like I've got an infection ,just this rasping cough , bit croaky at times but mainly dry ,making me feel dreadful again .Going for a scan today so won't ring Oncology unit (different hospital) Has anyone had this problem ,not much online about it ,but apparently can be caused by chemo ,just want a bit of relief .

Dear Feb,

You really need to talk to your Chemo nurse. They won’t mind giving you advice and it’s important to let them know.

Otherwise I would suggest Robitussen for Chesty Cough.

Worked a treat for me.

But call the Chemo line today.

They need to know.

Best wishes,

Laura

Sensible advice , I usually call if I've a problem but haven't today due to two appointments and timing , but you've convinced me ,so will ring after my scan .x

Hi. I agree with Laura, you should call, but I did experience something similar. A few days after each chemo (carboplatin only) I had a sore throat and a cough. Was told the chemo affect the lining of the respiratorn system just as it does the GI area. But it would go away waiting a week. I hope the nurse can help and that you get better soon!

Sorry you had the cough but relieved I'm not the only one , I didn't phone due to timing ,if its the same tomorrow I will phone .x

I had a cough all the way through Avastin and ended up getting several low grade infections before really having problems. Never had it on standard chemo though. Perhaps still worth ringing the hotline even if it's just to reassure you. Xx

Rang the hot line , I've no temperature so they're not really concerned ,suggested honey and lemon cough syrup, will give it a try ,going to ring me back tomorrow to see how I am .x

I’m on olaparib/Cediranib drug trial. Six weeks ago picked up a head cold that left me with a hacking cough, very phlegmy. I’ve just had a CT thorax which thankfully is clear. So dose reduced to see if that helps. Anaemic again! Transfusion planned for 23rd. Not good timing but hoping it gives me a lift so I’m not so short of breath for all that dancing! Worst thing is still carol singing with this croaky voice. Frog chorus! Merry Xmas Everyone🎄

Hi. My mom got the same thing about 3 days after her chemo. Nagging cough, lost her voice, and developed a small infection. Her nurse gave her cough syrup at night which helped along with low dose antibiotic. Her condition improved about 4 days later. Don’t be shy about getting the seemingly small things taken care of for yourself. Any ounce of relief and comfort that can be provided - take. Her dr also prescribed her an anti anxiety Med to help her sleep at night the first two night of her coughing bouts which seemed to work really well. I also met with an integrative doctor who suggested Boswellia (frankincense) capsules to help reduce overall inflammation and I don’t know if that did the trick but after her first dose (2 capsules) she noticed the impulsive coughing had subsided and by evening she wasn’t coughing at all. Wishing you a speedy recovery and some comfort.

HI-

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. I CAN ONLY TELL YOU THAT I WAS ON GEMZAR AND CARBO. IT GAVE ME AN AWFUL COUGH THAT HAS NOT GONE AWAY AND I'M ONE AND A HALF MONTHS OUT FROM CHEMO. IT'S NOT THAT BAD BUT NEVER HAD A COUGH BEFORE. WHICH CHEMO WERE YOU ON.? I WAS HOSPITALIZED ONCE FOR IT BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET AIR IN. IT IT MUCH BETTER NOW BUT STILL A LINGERING COUGH.

HOPE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD SEE THE DOCTOR.

GLAD IT'S BETTER. I HAD IV ANTIBIOTICS AND PREDNISONE (IV) WHEN I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL. THAT WAS FROM THE GEMZAR/CARBO. JUST REMEMBERED, THE FIRST TIME AROUND I HAD TAXOL/CARBO AND HAD A VERY BAD CASE OF BRONCHITIS. WENT FOR IV ANTIBIOTICS FOR 5 OR 7 DAYS AND IT GOT BETTER. STILL THINK SINCE YOU'RE ON CHEMO YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR DOCTOR. THEY CAN GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO GET RID OF IT.

You had it really bad , I'm going to see what the oncology nurse says tomorrow when she phones me back ,but I'm tempted to get a doctors appointment , I'm usually picking up after the chemo by now but this is holding me back , plus its keeping me awake at night , lack of sleeps not helping.

Hi fend

I’ve only had two cycles of Carboplatin/Taxol so far......after the 2nd I had a really bad reaction to the Taxol, it was really scary , flushed neck/ face my heart was beating really fast I thought it was going to burst out my cheat! 😳 and I had a strong pulsating pain in my lower back which two weeks later I’m still getting a lot of pain/ discomfort from.

Saw the consultant yesterday due to the reaction and having Fibromyalgia I can’t have Taxol anymore ( shame) lol

I think you have done brilliantly to stick at it, with all your side effects/ problems the Taxol has caused. You are a very strong lady like so many beautiful ladies on this forum 💕

Well done for completing all 6 👍

recovery may be slow....but like your chemo you will get there. 😊

Thank you Jackie ,so kind of you ,I certainly need a break now and a chance to build up my strength .I hope you're doing well on the carbo , originally I had three carbo / taxol ,then three carbo only ,which reduced the tumor Even more ,then surgery ,then taxol / carbo ,so don't worry about the taxol ,carbo is good stuff .xx

I was given a choice initially to have no chemo, Carboplatin only or Carbo/Taxol and my instinct was to go with the Carboplatin because Taxol makes Fibromyalgia symptoms worse, but when faced with Cancer you want to send in the S,A.S.

so reluctantly I signed up to both...

I’m told Carboplatin is the back bone of chemo for first line so that will do for me 😊

It’s time to focus on all the good things your gonna do when you get your strength back.
