Coughing and throat pain post chemotherapy

Hello guys,

My mom completed with six cycle of chemotherapy (tortaxel + bevacizumab) for her metastatic cervical cancer. After her sixth cycle she started coughing continuously and she feels throat pain and also her voice is changed.

Can you guys let me know if this is a side effect of the chemotherapy drugs or it is something serious. I'm very afraid now! I would request if anyone knows anything about this to share some information.

Thanks,

Madhu

While it could be a result of the chemo, it could also be something else. Get your mothers throat examined via endoscopy to rule out throat or gastric issues. Also, have her lungs scanned to rule out mets to lungs.

Some taxols do cause severe coughing and reflux. I do feel the Oncologists should take responsibility. Due to possible overdose of Paclitaxel or one of the other taxols you should be weighed and have BP taken before each and every infusion (as well as bloods) and these discussed with you. It is bad nursing/ medicine that does not. The voice may be affected permanently. An ENT specialist should be on your list and both ENT and Oncologist should speak to each other.
