Are massages ok

I’m thinking about maybe a lymphatic massage and wondered if anyone has had one, is it safe in our condition. Had radical hysterectomy with other bits out as well so my cut is from under my ribs to my lower area, I’m just over 3 months post op, not sure how long I can lie on my tummy though, has anyone any experience with a massage of this type.

I was told no body massages of any type and Bannatynes refused to give me one and I am 4 years NED.

Only massage I have is an Indian head massage, even after all this time, you will probably have to fill in a general health questionnaire and they may tell you they won’t do it.

Hope that helps, sorry it’s not good news,

Cxx

Hi there,

I have asked various people including my CNS and they all said massages were ok but not while on chemo.

They advised gentle massage, not too deep (not sure why?).

I think there is some info on the Macmillan site.

I’ve had several back massages.

Hello Flower! All I can say is don't have one while on chemo! I did and was flattened for almost a week after. Massage releases the toxins in your body so the deep tissue massage gets that chemo partying through your system!!☹ treat yourself to a session of acupuncture, just as relaxing and much more beneficial at this stage. 🌹

Thank you for that, I won’t do a massage then, I’ve never done acupuncture so will look into it. I’ve tried reflexology and that was really good, they say 6 sessions you will feel a definite benefit so I’ve done one going again next Thursday. Thank you for your advice.

I got oncology lymphatic drainage massages at my home. I was told no massages at public spas because of possibility of catching a disease like the flu, while on chemo, as I had a low neutrophil count. I can only lay on my stomach if it is empty as I have an incisional hernia. These type of massages work wonders in reducing inflammation.

I have had reflexology too and find it really amazing in terms of relaxing. I would be worried about lymphatic massage as it may encourage the cancer to spread but that is all hearsay - I must say a

Good acupuncturist is worth his/ her weight in gold to help with immune system. I had a hood one in SA but haven’t found a good one here yet x good luck! And hope the reflexology works for you. X

Hi you need to ask for someone who is trained in oncology massages. So an oncology massage should be fine.

Wishing you all the best, Nancy

This was approved by my sisters oncologist but they actually like reiki for patients better.
