Hello ladies, I have a question which I've been googleing to try and find the answer to : after chemo, if your ca135 level returns to >35, does this mean that your NED? I can only seem to find information on raised levels.
Ca125 returning to normal level: Hello ladies, I... - My Ovacome
Ca125 returning to normal level
Not necessarily. CT or PET scan should confirm no sign of disease to be declared NED.
The CA-125 marker is excreted by the cancer, so the lower it is, the more likely you are to be free of active disease, but you have a CT or PET Scan at the end of treatment to check for any visible signs.
In the UK, you get a CA-125 test every 3 months after that, and if the marker starts doubling, you will get a CT scan to look for disease.
Hope this helps and congrats if you have completed treatment and you have a nice low CA-125!
Best wishes,
Laura
Hi again, I just went back to look at your history and realised I had written to you before, when you first found out you had the recurrence! I was just like you, but made it to nearly 6 months feeling great.
So I was stunned to find my CA-125 rising.
I was put on Carbo and Caelyx and just started 3 weeks ago. I seem to be doing amazingly well, touch wood, unlike the first line of Carbo/Taxol, when I was so sick to start with.
How DId you do?
Were you only on Caelyx or did you have Carbo, too?
Let me know how you are feeling and any side effects you might have endured, please.
Sisters in arms,
Hugs,
Laura
Thanks for your the reply, I’m so sorry you’re back on treatment. I’m sure my question is just chemo brain and I already know the answer! Initially I was on Caelyx monthly. I had 3 cycles but my ca125 kept rising on it, from 247 to 1650. Oncologist stopped that and changed to weekly Taxol, which I’m responding to brilliantly, after 6 treatments ca125 is down to 75. I’ve been so fortunate that I haven’t had the neuropathy on the weekly chemo and apart from the usual tiredness, and 2 bowel obstructions in last 2 weeks, i feel ok and am still able to work full time. I hope you are as lucky as I’ve been and don’t have any bad side effects.
Take care of yourself

Unfortunately ca125 isn't always a totally reliable marker for everyone. I currently have cancer, & a ca125 of 7. Di
