Glad you’re getting stronger. Histology is when they examine the parts they removed in order to tell the type and extent of the cancer. Sometimes they can say where it originated eg in the Fallopian tubes or the ovaries. Mine took a few days - I’m in the US. Best wishes

Hi ML, here in the UK I think most histology testing takes approximately 3 weeks. Seems ages doesn’t it? It gives the doctors a lot of information, which is good. Hope you are recovering well from the surgery. Linda xx 💐

Thank you for your reply Linda, what sort of information ? Will it affect my next three sessions of chemo , just worried that it will bring bad news.

Hi Sheila, I don’t think you will get any ‘bad’ news.....that was given to you on diagnosis Sheila (nothing can be worse than that!). You’ve been through it already Sheila. The biopsy or histology will just give more information to the medical staff about the cells - the type and where the cancer started. All this helps them with future treatment for you (if needed). The next 3 chemos will take place as planned so don’t worry about that Sheila. Please don’t worry - let the medical staff do the worrying or thinking.

Hi,

My report was reviewed twice and took six weeks but, they were a consultant down and really under pressure!I think 2-3 weeks is the norm but,you have every right to keep calling the secretary for an update.Sadly,I think it’s the only way you get things moving these days😬😘

Do hope you get positive news soon🙏

Best wishes Clarexx

Hi Shelia,

I had a bit of a wait last Summer to say the least I was like a coiled spring.I knew OC was suspected in right ovary due to cyst with solid centre...after the big op they suspected issues in left ovary also.I got told my results had to be reviewed and the results would take longer to come through.

The wait was also down to the fact my gorgeous Gynae/Onc had taken poorly and they were working with a very challenging work load.

I was eventually staged 1a from a nasty in right ovary...no chemo but,I’m back on the fun bus awaiting further surgery but,new chap is 95% sure it’s a recurrence of Endometriosis and nothing sinister structurally🙏

Perhaps he left a rubber glove in there from last time?!!

Do hope you don’t mind me sharing so much when you’ve asked such a simple question bless you😘

Histology is such a vital part of this disease, any disease. I do hope you get some good news I know you’ve had a very tough time.

Best wishes,Clare xx

Hi Sheila. Glad to hear you are feeling better.

The histology report will contain detailed medical information for every tissue sample your surgeon sent to the lab for analysis after debulking surgery. It will tell where the tumour originated, whether it is actually cancerous or not, which cell type and which grade it is, and also help to confirm the staging (spread) of the tumours. Example: In my case I was told it was stage 3a borderline serous (with some micropapillary low-grade) ovarian.

If you feel so inclined, it might be useful for you to write that information down, as it can impact your treatment choices going forward.

Hope you get tolerable news. All the best. Maus

The frontiers of medicine change continually. Please follow the testing of Vaxil a cancer vaccine. It has passed the first tests of the FDA and the Euro medicine boards. They say it has excellent results for 90% of cancers.

But isn''t that vaccine they're testing, given the nature of vaccines, to prevent it happening in the first place, rather than being a treatment once it has happened?

There are two major types of vaccines. "Preventative vaccines" would prevent an illness such as HIV. "Therapeutic vaccines" would be used as an immune-based therapy for those currently infected.

Hi Sheila---come to the US--I got my histology report when I woke up from surgery!! If you can imagine, my surgeon was actually happy that it was High Grade Serous due to its ability to react to chemo but those low grade ladies out there have some advantages too. It really just helps decide your treatment moving forward so of course you might dread it but its obviously very necessary. I hope you will share with us when you find out and I hope they do not make you wait 6 weeks! oxoxo Judy
