My mom having excruciating neuropathy pain and has been in tears for an hour. I have given her her meds, called triage and discussed this with them. The ER was suggested for intolerable pain. We have tried a lot of over the counter remedies and they have not touched it. Does anyone have anything they know about that may help my poor mom. It kills me that I can’t help.

Hi there. Argh, sorry your mom is so poorly.

Others have more experience with neuropathy pain (mine is present but so far manageable; and hopefully soon improved by alpha lipoic acid and vitamine B pills) and might be able to share sage advice. That said: May I suggest that you get your mother to A&E/ER quickly in any case, for strong pain like this? It's what I would do.

Hope you are actually NOT reading this and she is already being seen to.

Aside from breakthrough pain relief, she might want to inquire about possible vit b and alpha lipoic acid supplements with her oncologist, for longer term relief.

Hope the pain gets under control soon. Maus

Thank you! Mom is taking the vitamin B and D supplements. Recently she was prescribed the Gabapentin and has been taking that for about 8-10 days, but states it doesn’t touch the pain. I have been told it takes time to start working and needs to build up in her body. She finally was able to fall asleep with the meds and she wants to stay away from the hospital at all cost as every time we go there it’s a week long stay or more. :(Thanks for your reply.

Hi jd, sorry to hear that your mum is in such pain! Gabapentine is supposedly a good drug for nerve pain. Short term suggestion: warmth eg. Warm socks or warm water, with magnesium flakes in? Linda xx

Hi is your mom on chemotherapy at this time is her temperature normal, I had the same when I was on chemo it was so sore uncomfortable pain, I had several arguments with my oncologist I am 36 with no other underling health problems I took paracetamol, with Vimovo 500/20 they are prescription and also used difene gel throughout the day it was also winter time so used heat patches and hot water bottle and I did reflexology a day I wouldn't be in so much pain and found it great and used aromatherapy oils.

I could not tolerate tramadol codeine or oramorph I got extreme nausea and vomiting from them and I don't find they help pain for me that is!! obviously everyone is different.

hope things improve soon for your mom

Been there. When the meds don’t touch it, try ice and warmth. A cold pack for the bottom of the feet, warmth for the legs. Sounds simple, but it allowed me to get some sleep, rather than moaning and groaning in pain. I hope your Mom gets some relief soon.

Only thing ever helped me was a hot bath...they tell u not too but as hot as I could bear it took it away temporarily with plenty of sweet tea water and a lot of moisturizing cream to areas . Such a horrible horrible pain hope it eases soon xx
