Hi ladies I joined the site last week and found it so uplifting. I had my scan on Monday and they were hoping to view it on Wednesday, but it missed the deadline so it will not get looked at until next Wednesday now and then consultant the Monday after 23rd 😥 I am struggling with the wait as I feel really uncomfortable now. The fluid in my tummy is so uncomfortable and I have alot of pain which I think is bowel spasms. Have any of you ladies had these symptoms. Pain in the side and these awful spasms. Could the fluid be causing this?
Kindest Regards
Maxine

Hi Maxine, When I was first diagnosed in March last year, I had a LOT of fluid and a lot of discomfort and bowel disturbances/pain. The Oncologist (later) explained that the tumours irritate the bowel & the fluid presses on the bowel. The body is very sensitive to pressure changes, which I knew from nursing.
I had the fluid drained straight from my first appointment (as an in patient), but while waiting for my first chemotherapy (about 2 weeks), it built up again. I phoned my Clinical Nurse Specialist and she got me seen by the Consultant (I had to wait 6 hours to see her!). She said wait for the chemo. Then I remember it was Easter Monday & I was huge (still waiting for chemo) & my hub took me to A&E. They said wait for the chemo. It was horrid. I really feel for you! Even if you have to wait, go to see someone - GP, CNS for advice - maybe the Team can seem you sooner? Hope you can get some relief/advice very soon. Linda xx
P. S. Nothing much gets done at a weekend, so go/phone today xoxo
Thank you so much for your reply. It is so uncomfortable. They were going to drain the fluid last Wednesday but then decided to wait until after ct scan. Since then it is a Lot worse. My bowel is doing somersaults 😥 I will contact the specialist nurse in the morning. Thank you again. I hope it is the fluid and not cancer gone into my bowel xxx
Hi again Maxine. I had no cancer in the bowel & my bowels (after all treatments were completed) are fine now, better than they’ve ever been I think! Try to leave a message on the CNS’s phone today - they are different to get hold of. She may be able to ring you back. I am not a pushy person Maxine, in fact, more the other way, but you will learn that you have to push & ask lots of questions. Always take a relative or friend with you to appointments.
My tip would be if you are going to go to AandE with this...don’t leave it to the weekend. Even my GP said that no one will make a decision without the Oncologist opinion and they are only Mon-Fri!
Ring your CNS and say you are coming in to A and E if they don’t do something..hopefully that will get things moving xx
I had so much discomfort and fluid, but was taken in and drained, to keep the fluid down, can you ask for this?, go to a and e like the other ladies have said, it’s who shouts loudest, is there someone to take with you to fight your corner?
Hi Lovey they were going to drain it last week but then decided to wait for the ct scan results, but not going to get them now for a week and a half. I sent a msg to the specialist nurse this afternoon so waiting for a reply. I truly gave to learn to speak out I do find it difficult. My sister will come with me she speaks out xxx
I had to be drained before chemo started as it was uncomfortable so I can only re- iterate what the other ladies have said. I had bowel problems and took buscopan which controlled the spasms. I had a bowel perforation later and a resection done at the same time I had my big op but there was no infiltration of disease just the cancer pressing on the bowel and causing problems. I hope you get it all sorted today before the weekend x x x
Thank you so much I am hoping for a call back today but I will go and get buscopan in the meantime. Thank you so much ladies for all your advise I truly appreciate it.
I had a great deal of fluid and couldn't eat anything without vomiting. I lived on "smoothies" for several weeks. After the first chemo treatment, I had some relief and after the second, total relief from the fluid.
