Hi ladies,
Has anyone experienced persistent ecoli infections? Do you take anything other than antibiotics for it? Mum has been on antibiotics since early December now and it still isn't shifting. She does have uretic stents which aren't helping.
I read somewhere about using D-Mannose but not sure if this is safe to take?

Hi. I took D-mannose when on chemo, and the onc was ok with that. The uti did clear eventually, but I am more inclined to think it was the use of a vaginal moisturiser that did the trick, and I am still using it regularly. See my past posts, as uti's were making my life a misery until I found the solution. Hope you can sort this, as regular antibiotics are not ideal.

I'm not sure how old your mum is, but mine was given the advice re vaginal moisturisers when she had a run of UTIs.
Apparently they become more common the older we get and this is partly down to the loss of moisture.
Some can be irritant. I recommend Gynomunal -cheapest to buy from them directly and arrives very quickly.
A friend who suffers frequent UTIs recommends D-Mannose.

Mum is 74. She does have the stents in place too which unfortunately collect the bugs but she has just had those replaced and within 2 weeks is back on antibiotics. This is getting to a stage where it is constant.
Thank you for your suggestion though. I'll google it and speak with Mum. Anything is worth a try!
I did wonder about the D-Mannose as it is sugar and I guess I'm still worried about the effect of sugar on the cancer. Maybe one to speak to the consultant about. They are just too quick to issue antibiotics without suggesting other possible aids

Sorry to be personal but it sometimes depends on the way we wipe ourselves.

Mum is really careful - we did speak about this 
(this whole cancer journey really does mean that little goes unsaid or unseen!!).
I think the uretic stents are also playing a part as they seem to gather the bugs and makes it difficult to shift. Its hard though as the infections are constant.
