Liver spots

Hope everyone is going as well as they can

Just wondering if anyone out there has experience with oc transferring to the liver and how are they getting on with/after treatment. Just started on gemciteabine.

Hi Westawake,

I’ve just finished second line carbo-gem for a recurrence which included a 4cm flat sheet of OC on my liver. By my mid-way scan, that had shrunk to 1.5cm. I get my final scan results tomorrow, and my CA125 was 18 at the last test three weeks ago.

I’ve found it a decent regime with minimal side effects.

So good of you to reply so quickly. You have put a smile on my face.

I've had a very tough time lately with poor quality of life but that is slowly improving as I'm spending sometime in the local Hospice. Hoping to be discharged next week, all going well.

Hi Westawake, sorry you are having a recurrence, I had Gemzar twice in 2010 and in 2013. I tolerated it generally well both times. Second time I had Avastin with it. Now and again the white cells would go down a little but always came back up again. Gem contains alcohol so I was recommended not to drive for 24 hours post treatment. You can be tired and you may get blurring or headaches post treatment and the usual nausea for a day but it is more manageable than Carbo taxol. I didn't have liver spots but what I can say is that I finished Gem in Nov 2013 and Avastin Sept 2015 and I am stable. So I wish you the same result, all the very best

Thank you also for your prompt reply. I had 36 doses of radiotherapy last Oct Nov and that really took a lot of of me as well as having another bowel surgery to have a stoma bag, so a lot happened in a short space of time. They were happy with radiotherapy results but then I just felt I was getting worse, rather than better and ended up in hospital really, really I'll. That is when I discovered the cancer had moved to liver. My oncologist said it was serious but after a few rounds of gem I do feel a bit better. On top of all that I got Lymphedema in my legs ,part to do with radiotherapy and part to do with the disease. That's when I felt I needed the respite the Hospice can offer. Aiming to go home next week, certainly feeling better than what I came in feeling. Just thought I would share all of that as someone out there might take something out of it and I unfortunately am not great at posting. Better at reading the posts.

Just wondering have you had genetic testing and if not do ask your oncologist for it, He has to refer you to Crumlin or St James, maybe it is done in the West area, the result could leave you open to parp inhibitors. Do ring your Liason Nurse and I am sure she would be very helpful

Hi, Westawake, I too have spots on my liver. At this stage it is suspicious spots so they haven’t identified it as Cancer as yet. They have just said probable. So after 5 years and 4 rounds of chemo and radiation, it has arrived at my liver. I had 7 tumors on my lungs but they dissappeared with the last chemo. So I choose to hope that they will disappear with this trial drug I am on. I have known personally several more people for ovarian cancer to go to the liver. It really is a lucky dip. Hopefully you will have on going luck. Sharon

Sharon, Thank you for your reply. You too have given me more hope and I can only go with it at the moment. Just checking what's the name if the drugs you are on.

Sharon best of luck with your health going forward, you just don't know where it is going to arrive and not knowing can me very difficult.

Yes I did.

And I as radical surgery in London to remove it. It will give you statistically a far better chance of pfs.

I think the liver bits have always been there but shrunk a bit after each line of chemo. First was carbo taxol and second was carbo caelyx so not had gem yet. I’m just on watch and wait for a bit so having a break from chemo but no doubt will be having more soon! Wishing you all the best xx
