Radiation treatment in UK

Does anyone know if it is possible to get radiation treatment for clear cell ovarian cancer in the UK? I keep reading about how successful it has been in Canada, USA and Japan and that it is most successful soon after debulking when you ate NED. I will ask my oncologist at my next appointment but know that I will be fobbed off!

Hi Neona, I don't have clear cell but I know what's its like to be fobbed off by the doctors. I keep repeating the same questions over & over again mouth in mouth out to my onc's till I get an ansewer I am happy with. If they keep fobbing me off I get my daughter in law to ask it.

If someone on here knows this treatment is available in the UK then you could ask for a referral. You might be robbed off but it's worth a try.

It might be an idea to get as much information about this treatment before seeing your onc so they might find it hard to fob you off. Good luck let us know how you get on take care Cindyxx

When I was patient rep on SIGN which is equivalent to NICE here in Scotland it was discussed .

So the possibility of not available is probably greater.

Take care x

Hi Neona, I know your post was a little while ago, but it just caught my eye... I knew a woman with clear cell who had radiotherapy as part of her treatment plan for clear cell approx 5 years ago... from memory she lived in South Yorkshire (Wakefield?). My understanding was that it was agreed to based on a Canadian clinical trial which published results around that time & which demonstrated some benefit at diagnosis for early stage Clear cell type only (stage 1s and possibly 2a?) She had done the research herself and shared the study with her oncologist. I also think that within the hospital trust where she was a patient, this was subsequently offered to others who fitted the criteria.... Best wishes, Sx

Thanks for this info-I was just told no as it is in more than one place. Don’t think it is often considered in UK which is a shame as they are short on options for clear cell if chemo doesn’t work. I’m just doing the tests for the Patriot trial and keeping my fingers crossed.
