I was in St James for mine and they are efficient and friendly. I had an epidural which then controlled the pain for 36 hours. The surgeon didn't like them but the anaesthist does. After that the worst pain was wind and I got out of bed and moving, just round the room at first, as soon as they said I could, as that helped most. I hope it goes well for you tomorrow. Lx
Hi ~Trust me when I say you will be fine. Having the title of 'World's Biggest Wimp' I can assure you the op is nowhere near as bad as you are probably fearing. It's fear of the unknown. As Lesley has already said the worst bit is wind - so trust me when I say let it go when you need to!. You will look back and wonder why you worried so much. Best wishes for tomorrow xx Kathy xx
I had my op at St James 2 years ago. The lovely mr H was my surgeon.
As the others have said, keep moving as soon as possible. It really helps with wind. XX
You will, without a doubt, be well looked after. If you've had caesarean sections you will remember that the sooner you get moving the better. You will know your tummy will be sore but will heal quickly. I've had c section and debulking and I found very little difference. Good luck for tomorrow. Carole H 😊 x
Thinking about impending surgery had me terrified BUT once it was here the fear lifted and I was ready to get on with it. All that wasted worry when the reality was OK. Like katmal said you'll wonder why you worried so much.
Love xxx
You'll be fine I had my hysterectomy there last July and the were lovely, x
Good luck! I'm sure it will be fine.
I'm glad you're going in tonight..I had to arrive on the ward at 7am!
Its only natural to be aprehensive but you will have lots of time to doze afterwards xx
It's natural to be a bit scared, I was terrified witless and it was nowhere near as bad as I thought, you will be sore but so long as you do as little as possible, move around a little and rest when you need to you'll be fine. Sending big encouraging hugs and love ❤️Xx Jane
HI Ossett, By now you have had your operation and hope all is well, remember to be kind to yourself and take it very easy for the first 6 week. Sending you my best wishes Lorraine from down under 💙💙
All the best. Hope all goes well. Sounds like you're in a great hospital. Jo 🌻🌻🌻
Hi, sorry only reading your post now. I do hope you are comfortable and recovering well. Do as you are advised and you should make a good recovery. Ann xx
Hi the operation got cancelled, I went in on Thursday teatime and should have been operated on at 1.30 on Friday but at 1pm the came and said there was no high dependency bed for me afterwards and they wouldn't do the operation as it would not of been safe to do so ,the surgeon said she would like to put a camera through my belly button to see if she could successfully get most of the cancer when she did operate, I agreed to this and when she had finished she said that there was no cancer on my bowel so would not have to touch it, that was such a relief so going back on on the 27 June she said she would be able to get all of it except for one nodule near my heart but said that this was shrinking with the chemo. So have to go through all the trauma again.
