Yes they said it can work against your treatment

They clearly think it has an effect then?!

I think it's more to do with the lack of scientific evidence of the effects. I was advised not to take any supplements and the reason was they don't really know enough to know whether they're effective or how they might interact with the drugs.

I checked with my consultant only last week if I could take magnesium and turmeric supplements, while on,aviston. He gave me the go ahead. Suppose they all have different opinions, but wonder what reason not to.?

What does turmeric do? I'm on just Carboplatin

Hi Ricky, it's one of those new super foods ment to kill cancer cells & good for bone pain.

I make it my self & freeze it & take it everyday but very messy to make. Cindyxx

From my understanding turmeric is a blood thinner, preventing clots as is Avastin so taking it together is a double whammy for the bloods.

But for turmeric to be effect you have to take it with some black pepper or fat.

Black pepper and oil and tablets don't do anything. That's what I have read and what the nutritionist at the cancer center said. I was going to say "so you can take it with a grain of salt" but I thought someone might take that literally. Lol. A little levity for the day

that neither here nor there the point is taking turmeric thins the blood as does Avastin which is why it is advised not to be taken whilst on the drug.

in terms of turmeric being effective or not....

Hi Ann, I take turmeric & many other bits & my cancer doctors said it will make no difference either way. They have very little faith in anything but chemo. I am off chemo at the moment so taking everything but would listen to advice just incase. Take care Cindyxx

Hi Cindy I'm still having Beva so that's why I'm unable to take it, xx

Hi Ann, I started taken turmeric after all my treatment stopped but my cancer doctors didn't seem bothered in anything I did take. I know it's hard to find anything negative about turmeric but while on treatment I wouldn't take it. I was just lucky I stated it after treatment. Take care Cindyxx

I tried to research this but found nothing. Tried the internet and MacMiilan advice number but no one seemed to know if Avastin reacts with any supplements. I took them including turmeric without any problems but I would go with what your oncologist says.

Hi, I have been putting turmeric in my food and am still using it. I use the powder, and as my ct scan came back ned I don't think it's done me any harm. I should of mentioned it to my oncologist but I didn't. Also have been told to mix with black pepper. I also sent off for a powder called IP6 gold and inositol blend formula . It's supposed to help the immune system. It might be just wishful thinking but I feel it has helped me.

I am off treatment at the moment but I do use tumeric in Cooking whenever I can or sprinkle it on the food. I do find however that it you use it for a few days my tummy gets a bit irritated so I pace myself. I found a herbal tumeric tea in the summer and just finished the last of it today, It has green tea, lemon and licorice in it.

Hi, Annr5h. Glad you mentioned. I know someone on this site had been writing about tumeric, but, could not find to respond. When I rec'd my CATSCAN results a few weeks ago disclosing that my OC was back in a small spot, the scan also revealed that I had a "fatty liver" I had looked up remedies online and it mentioned tumeric. I then asked the DR about it and she said "absolutely" not! Tumeric like some other remedies does prevent certain "bad" things to enter your liver, but, in the process, it will block the absorption of the needed chemo. Glad I actually remembered to ask the Dr. Forgetting everything these days!

Best wishes to you and thank you for reminding me!

Marisa
