Hey Joan!

I am taking the Calcium and Vit D (calcichew) but decided not to take the bisphosphonates! I spoke to my onc about it and he agreed with me! I am doing a good bit of weight bearing exercise and increasing the yogurts etc so I am hoping that will be enough! Am taking curcumin a multivitamin and fish oils as well as being careful with my sugar intake too! I am really trying to be good so I hope that will do the job!

Good to hear you are good! I agree it's a combination of everything!

Thanks D I am very undecided, I am ready to roll but havent started, The Calcichew didnt do anything for me, I didnt absorb it and it was in my blood stream instead, My sister has osteoporosis so its familial, I will start it and see how it goes and also do the rest of the stuff. Today had a nice walk in the City as its on the flat and took vit d tablet. I had steroid shot in hip on Thurs so taking it gently for next few days. Have a fab weekend

Apparently taking vitamin K2 along with the calcium and vitamin D3 makes the calcium go into the bones the way you want it to rather than hanging about in your bloodstream. I read a really interesting book on this called Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox: How a Lille-Known Vitamin Could Save Your Life by Kate Rheaume-Bleue. It's available for Kindle. It might be worth asking your GP about this, though if he/she is anything like mine she won't have heard of it and will have to come back to you having looked it up! I am now taking vitamin K2 as a result and my GP is happy for me to do so. It's not available on prescription I don't think, but you can buy it in shops like Holland & Barrett.

Thanks for that BJ! I am taking a multivitamin that includes Vit K! Will check to see what amount of Vit K is in that! How much do you take?? I am really anxious to avoid the bisphonates as they are severe on your stomach apparently and I suffered with my digestive system during chemo and I don't want to go back there if I can help it at all!!

I'm away from home at the moment, so haven't got the bottle handy. I'll try to remember to check and let you know tomorrow, when I get home.

Well progress, I ate a yogurt today a brand with extra vit D. Was going to take Fosavance in the morning and then read instructions and felt that it may be a better idea to let it go for a few days/ My reason is that I had flu vac and steroid injection last Thurs so perhaps I should leave it a few days for those to work. Well that is my excuse

You do forget how far you have come and the battle that has been with us, and it's difficult to realise things will get better. Thank you for these words of encouragement along the way.

I try to remember how far I have come and how I overcame the obstacles. This is comforting and reminds me that we are all fighting together and are certainly not alone. Thank you.

What lovely words and so true. I read this the other day and found it inspiring

‘I am not defined by my scars, but by the incredible ability to heal’

I am certainly covered in scars. I look like I've been attacked by a shark. My husband says I look fine but I avoid the full length mirror now. I'm a fright but healing I hope
