Hi ladies

I have my very first appointment with the oncologist on Thursday , is this normal  and what can I expect. How long is it after this meeting before you get your first line. I am stage 3c PPC but very new to this.

I had chemo two days after seeing the oncologist, they sent me to bloods with a form marked urgent, gave me a chemo book with an appointment, it was all rather quick.  The second time I had bloods and a kidney function test before they gave me a chemo date

Hope that helps

Hi Elsie once I saw my oncologist he sent me for a kidney function test and yet more blood tests but then the next week I was booked for my first chemo, it was pretty quick. Take care xx

Hi Elsie,  First of all I wish you well on your visit to your Oncologist and it is normal to meet up with him or her to discuss your plan of treatment.   I would ask what side effects you may expect, remember you wont get all of them,  Ask for anti nausea and also if you will have to take steroids.   It really varies from hospital to hospital but it could be a week or more before you start treatment here in Ireland anyhow,  So you will have a plan after Thursday which is the most important thing right now,

Hi Ellsey, firstly welcome to our forum.  I had had surgery prior to meeting with oncologist so I had to wait a couple oif weeks to give my wound time to heal as chemo can cause it to break down.   She alsoi arranged for me to have an up to date CT scan and I got this the day before my chemo started. All I. All though it was pretty quick.  Once you meet him/her and you have your plan and written information about the chemo yoiu will be having you'll feel much h better.  If you have questions, write them down and take with you to ask.  You'll be grand. I met my Oncologist on the Tuesday - 3 weeks after my TAHBSO then had my first Chemo the following Tuesday (2 weeks ago) I had to wait until 4 weeks after surgery for my first chemo and that was also considered quite close as the healing can be affected by the chemo. Luckily the pains I am getting around my incision aren't too bad so quite manageable. Hope it goes well for you

Hi

I saw my oncologist and a few days later I had a tour of the cancer centre and met with staff and got details etc. I started chemo within a week - carbo/taxo 3 x then surgery then 3 more. I have ppc stage 3c too. Good luck with it all and take someone with you if you can as it is hard to remember what they tell you.

Best wishes

Vicki

I have stage 3C PPC.  At my first oncology appointment I met with her and a cancer nurse.  Both were very king and 'human' and not clinical and officious as I had feared.  She spoke about the chemo drugs that I would be having as well as putting me forward for a trial which I was accepted on.  She spoke at length about possible side affects.  She told me that the plan was three cycles of Chemo, surgery and another 3 cycles of chemo.  She was not doom and gloom and when I asked about the future she said that I was having a curative procedure and let's try and get me past the five years.  I then saw her every three weeks where I was told of my falling CA reading that gave me a great boost and she checked on how I was coping with Chemo.  She gave me antibiotics after the second cycle. Now I've completed 3 cycles I have a joint appointment with her and the surgeon next week.  I hope this is helpful.  Tracey x

Hi Elsie

I too am PPC stage 3c. Admitted via A and E in 2011. 9 days in hospital having fluid drained along wth all the other scans plus biopsy . Two weeks from first admission I got my final diagnosis and then 9 days later I started chemo. Having read the other replies I see that in most cases there was a speedier response than I had. I guess it is all part of the 2 tier system that passes for a health service in this country. I really wish you all the best for successful treatment . Have you been told you are having surgery or just chemo or both ? My treatment was chemo only . If I can be of any help let me know

My first chemo was exactly a week after I saw the oncologist.  I was sent for blood tests the day before the first chemo appointment.

Good luck as it seems so strange at first and then suddenly you're in a routine and no longer the new girl at school..
